The AFL-CIO should start throwing some money towards labor journalism. If it was done right (i.e. with them accepting that journalists must have full editorial control over what’s published, whether or not union leaders like what they have to say) it could really have such a hugely positive impact

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this video.

I don’t know how we’ve gotten to the point where men in full balaclavas can abduct daycare teachers while they’re watching children.

But I do know that this isn’t sustainable. Abolish ICE. There is no way to reform this.

Mamdani’s mayoral victory in New York City means so much — including the repudiation of Islamophobic attacks and weaponization of antisemitism.

politicians are, by nature of position and power, pretty much enemies of the people as soon as they take office — AND what zohran will be attacked for will really be attacks on us as new yorkers. whether it is with him or against him, always, always fight for the people zohran is going to represent.
I regret to inform you all that, beyond my community-approved 72 hour libbing-out window, I also feel that it may necessary to hold the line for our new socialist mayor in public discourse for a substantially longer period of time

Zohran's success will hinge equally on what he is ABLE to do and how effectively he messages to voters when the federal govt of wealthy interests / police, etc in NYC deliberately sabotage things.

we've seen this shit in oregon with elites lining up to torpedo progressive measures
The full weight of western capitalism is about to laser focus on NYC. The robber barons failed to win and will panic. They will sabotage NYC because the system cannot allow Mamdani's term to be successful. They cannot allow people to believe things can be better. Your job now is to hold the line.

between mamdani, ryan, and applyer’s wins, there is a great story waiting to be written about yesterday’s proof that voters are ready for a new conversation on crime and safety — “tough on crime” just doesn’t play like it used to. reporters PLEASE hit me up if you want to write this.

As many have pointed out, Mamdani didn't stand apart from our trans brothers and sisters. He didn't play the "Gee, gosh, it sure is complicated," milquetoast moderate card. And he crushed.

The way forward is together, not over the bodies of our own.

It's uncanny how Cuomo has been laser-focused at appealing to the absolute worst qualities in people - their insularity, their tribalism, and now their fear. A campaign monumental in its cynicism, a colossal bet by this man and his billionaire backers that people are basically bad.
This isn't a closing election argument, it's Vidkun Quisling explaining why surrender is better than resistance.

will never forget working with new york renews when they rallied for climate justice in albany (a platform adopted by cynthia nixon), in response to which cuomo instead announced a plastic bag ban he had refused for years. fitting that that ban has actually massively increased plastic waste.
One of Andrew Cuomo's most reliable tactics as governor was to drag his feet on progressive priorities and then finally give in, take all the credit, and use the moment to divert attention from his deeply conservative and harmful governance www.nytimes.com/2021/04/04/o...
