New tracking data shows the Mara-Loita wildebeest migration in Kenya has declined by 90% since 2020. Fencing and land subdivision in Narok County have blocked historic corridors, restricting the herd's movement to calving and grazing grounds 1/2

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

When I went to OpenAI’s press briefing a couple weeks ago, the moment that made me the most nauseous is when their “VP of Global Impact” said they were testing AI models like this across Kenya and other parts of Africa
“The AI in the study probably prompted doctors to become over-reliant on its recommendations, ‘leading to clinicians becoming less motivated, less focused, and less responsible when making cognitive decisions without AI assistance,’ the scientists said in the paper.”
AI Eroded Doctors’ Ability to Spot Cancer Within Months in Study
Artificial intelligence, touted for its potential to transform medicine, led to some doctors losing skills after just a few months in a new study.

One of the most common arguments you hear from fans of generative ‘AI’ is that it’s not plagiarizing people’s work, it’s just learning like a human learns. So I’m going to break down why that’s just not true, and why it can never be true, with the existing systems. 1/

SINNERS is now the biggest Hollywood original movie of any kind at the box office since 2017 when Pixar's COCO came out. To find a live-action movie that made at least $200M domestic, we have to go back much further. This is truly bananas.

I remember I tried to read the first book as a teen that read literally anything and all of it very fast. After literal WEEKS, I'd got to like page 220 (of like 1000 mind you). At that point I was just like "I guess everything isn't for everyone" and DNF
Forcing myself through the Lord of the Rings movies. I’d only ever seen the first one when it came out. Just finished The Two Towers.

Watching #Supernatural (or more accurately I should say REwatching). I don't know if I like Ruby as a character (for context I know exactly how I feel about Gordon who I consider underanalysed tbh) but what I will say is S3 Ruby killed it

(Love Gordon (and hate him) but as a character.. 💯)

Yeah, no. What we have right now is glorified autocorrect. Glorified autocorrect that takes the energy of an entire city to do what it does, plus half of Lake Erie to cool down while it's doing it.
