@nateduncannba.bsky.social just curious - What's your best guess as to the cash value of the 2026 unprotected draft pick that the NO Pelicans traded to the Atlanta Hawks?

Advocates of “military Keynesianism” present it as a boon for the working class. In reality, it diverts resources away from social provision while building up a military-industrial complex with a vested interest in aggressive wars that never cease.

the Democratic Party is just completely broken right now
That Clyburn thinks Andrew Cuomo is part of the future of the Democratic Party - and points to his character!!! — is the problem with the current Democratic Party leadership in a nutshell.

This is more than possible. It's the likely outcome. You're talking about a President who reverses himself on domestic policy a half a dozen times in a single week. That's not how war works, of course, but Trump is dumb enough to believe he could proclaim it over after launching an attack.
"It’s also possible the Israelis thought their attack on Iran could jam Trump, and drag the U.S. into a larger campaign against Iran’s nuclear program, or even a regime change war. Maybe Trump wouldn’t bomb when they asked, but would if they were under attack, or if Iran fired at American forces."

The president of the United States in our time is not supposed to wield armed troops and even station marines on American soil because of political speech and assembly he doesn’t like, that is typically not allowed and no I don’t care if any of it is technically “legal”

UBI isn't a handout; it's a tool for economic justice and social protection. It's also an investment in human potential that enables millions of individuals and whole communities to escape poverty and create wealth, in turn boosting economies and reducing inequality. It's a win-win.

Vision 2029: Universal basic income, single payer healthcare, Universal pre-K to college w/ media literacy, wealth taxes, reverse Citizens United, abolish gerrymandering, proportional representation, DC statehood, automatic voter registration, nonpartisan primaries, ranked choice general elections…
The resistance needs an inspiring vision. Much of the organizing function that animates the left has been in opposition to something rather than the advocacy for a vision. It is easier to agree upon something distressing to stop than a shared vision to work towards. --Stephan Dinan

So, the DOGE kids intend to rewrite the social-security administration's COBOL code-base!

... in *a few months*

I did a huge dive into COBOL a few years ago (www.wealthsimple.com/en-ca/magazi...) ...

Gut Shabbos and Shabbat Shalom to everyone who knows that the real way to combat antisemitism and build a more inclusive country for us all is to fight fascism together, not to allow Jewish safety to be weaponized by the state against other marginalized communities.

So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at USAID.

This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC.

What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.
Elon Musk: "We will make mistakes. We won't be perfect ... so for example, with USAID, one of the things we accidentally canceled very briefly was ebola prevention."

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.

It's brutal.

And it's the smallest taste of what our students felt when their universities called in the cops b/c they protested a genocide.
