I have thoughts. I have questions. I have jokes.
The overwhelming use of misogynistic language calling Republican politicians “b!tch, pu$$y, etc. from leftist men with strong media presence (Stewart, Oliver, etc—Who I forgive because I love them, but that’s another matter) is unshockingly ironic given that those upending MAGA are mostly women.

Cutting Medicaid means costs are shifted to providers. When patients lose coverage, they turn to ERs for care they can’t afford. Hospitals eat the cost, pass it on to insurers, and your premiums go up.

Medicaid cuts mean a worse health care system for EVERYONE.

This is my favorite picture of Stonewall.

They knew they were getting arrested just for being LGBTQ+.

Yet... they're still here, standing outside of the boarded up Stonewall Inn, smiling as the world was at a fever pitch of hatred against them.

I think about it a lot in moments like this.

MAGA voters are the adolescents who are sick of mom’s rules and stuff and they wanna live with dad. And now they’re grappling with the fact that dad has no idea how to take care of anything because he just wanted the kids as a way to show mom that he’s cooler.

Ok. So what if we all buy music again and share it amongst our communities (a la 2003)? We can be creative, right?
We must have some techy-music-enthusiasts to make a model of this? Ehh?
Spotify is drawing attention after the company hosted a Trump inauguration brunch featuring Joe Rogan and Ben Shapiro, among others.

The streaming giant also made a $150,000 donation to the new president's inauguration ceremony.

Seeking an account or other service that allows me to put my time/resources towards resisting fascism without having to actually watch the ups/downs/utter chaos of this administration. Any recommendations?

I’m not saying Jane Goodall is unimpressive, but I am saying that I can watch a squirrels in my backyard for hours and I think I, too, would have been really great at watching primates for long periods of time. Mammals that are not dumb humans are mesmerizing.

It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, who had ever been alive.”

Raw milk is cool if you want to do something dangerous with absolutely no benefit. All risk, no reward. Like trying to eat a campfire.

This is both a) WIIIILD, b) inhumane AF, and c) a real wacky and inefficient use of resources. I know the political machine doesn’t care about these things, but can we enlarge the public narrative around this so that voters can at least see that this is bananas?
“No judge wants to send a kid to Lincoln Hills,” said a MKE County judge, who has presided over juvenile cases. “You feel like you’re damning the kid. And if you look at the recidivism rates that come out of Lincoln Hills, you pretty much are damning a kid.” From @mkoran.bsky.social and Devin Blake:
Wisconsin budgets nearly $463,000 a year to incarcerate each child at the state’s Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake schools. Why have costs ballooned? How much do other states spend to incarcerate youth? How else could Wisconsin spend on troubled youth? Answers to those questions and more in our report.

At the risk of oversharing, I have been very close to a very suicidal minor for the past few years. I have done all the things. Called suicide hotline. Referred to social workers. Connected with his family. Joined his caseworkers’ meetings. Visited in psych ward. Called cops when it felt imminent.

I love being wrong about things. First the zipper merge and now this! Thanks to @isaacrowlett.bsky.social for being the catalyst for me to rethink things I thought I knew.
Evidence has demonstrated this effect in numerous cities now.

I understand why it sounds weird to say, 'building a bunch of fancy new townhouses and skyscrapers will make housing more affordable!' but it simply appears to be true.
So proud of the great work happening in Minneapolis, which shows that boosting housing supply helps make homes more affordable.
