How to end the dependence on sentence starters

Emily Brontë: ghosts. I think a young girl ghost knocking on your window!

Charlotte Brontë: no! A hideous nun ghost rising from the shadows in a attic before the lights go out!

Anne Brontë:

Emily Brontë: come on, Anne. What’s the scariest thing?!

Anne: men.

Just seen an EEF video which basically claims that everything we do as teachers is 'retrieval practice'. This is why I keep pointing out that the learning = memory narrative is so problematic. You end up defining a complex process by its potential outcome. The role of motivation basically goes MIA.

YOUR HISTORY TEACHER NEVER TOLD YOU-

*me, checks lecture notes* I definitely told you.

YOUR TEXTBOOK LEFT OUT-

Me: It is on page 37 and again on 54.

HISTORIANS NEVER ADMIT-

Me: Look will you just admit already that you slept through class?

Have just pre-ordered this collection edited @benniekara.bsky.social - looks like a great range of genres and writers explored.
Diverse Words and Voices, a collection of 30 extracts from writers with a range of identities, will be published 7th October. I am proud to have edited the collection. Have a look to see which extracts we have included!

The only way we will see an improvement in workload is if we have a finite working week.

If every single task relating to every aspect of teaching had to fit into an 8 hour day, we'd think very carefully about what those tasks were.

Doing a heavy workload at home is still doing a heavy workload.
Today on @teachertapp.bsky.social we’re asking all about PPA time - where you can go, can you go home.

Be sure to add YOUR voice you can answer questions or download the app here: onelink.to/teachertapp

Is flexibility for PPA the workload win some think it is? Do you want to do PPA at home?

Black History Month is coming up with the theme ‘Reclaiming Our Narratives.’ In education, let’s ask: Whose stories are centred? Whose are missing? It’s time to move beyond performative acts and make Black British History truly part of British History—beyond single stories and beyond struggle.

Amen. The idea that school should teach adult life admin is the bleakest, drabbest view of education
I also get really bothered with the "teach them taxes"...

No. We don't have a US system where you file your own taxes until you earn a significant amount. By which time you basically hire an accountant.

Stop doing click bait headline things - focus on good disciplinary knowledge!

I feel seen!
I find people's 'my favourite whatever' lists interesting, but I find making these choices impossible personally. My favourite book? Right now? Last year? Five years ago? As a kid? For plot? For character? For relaxation? For a mental challenge? OK, I've got ten titles for each category, now what?

Was v interested to receive the report in my inbox today @veldaelliott.bsky.social’s first screenshot is both pleasing and depressing-great to see such huge uptake, disappointing to see it confirmed that representation has been so minimal in specs to date. Props to Edexcel for spearheading diversity

Serious post:

Look after yourself this year.

Doing ‘what’s best for the kids’ does not (and *must* not) necessitate the compromise of your health - mental and physical.

It just isn’t worth it. *You* matter.

Assert your boundaries unabashedly.

You got this!

My view on #Edusky 🎓is that if we really want this community to function well, we need to lay off the like button.

Hit Repost or quote post to raise the voices of others, but most of all reply - get involved. Even if its only to say you agree, or like the sound of it.
