Cool fact, sand can be made up entirely of biogenic material (shell pieces, spines, exoskeletons). Just hard bits of tiny animals (sometimes fossilised!). It's just body parts of dead animals.

I have no small amount of cognitive dissonance at the contrast between the dire situations in the nation and at my university, and the fact that I am at the peak (and I guess nearing the end?) of my career.

We had a department meeting today to discuss how to fine tune our course offerings to meet the needs of students. Every single ,one of my colleagues was willing to switch around their teaching loads and schedules or tweak their courses for the greater good. #academicsky
