COVID has answered my long-standing question of why the 1918 flu left so little record in the literature. It turns out learning you and your loved ones are subject to culling by nature red in tooth and claw is an intensely unpleasant experience and people prefer to memory hole it.
There is no national mourning that can keep people from hitting skip or turning the TV off. There is nothing so solemn as to stop pundits from enveloping it in hooting farce. And there is no memorial that isn't converted, sooner or later, into celebration. America doesn't know how to grieve.
There was things though? Before Biden's inauguration there was lights and a ceremony at the Lincoln Memorial (no crowds due restrictions. And then a year later Biden spoke at the White House and there were candles on the steps. (link to that one in the reply to this)

Awful day for music fans. If you aren’t familiar with Todd Snider, I don’t blame you. He was a giant in a genre of music that barely exists anymore - but I can count on one hand the artists who wrote more great songs this century than he did.

A dozen to choose from. I’ll share a few of my favs.

In Northfield, Minnesota, masked ICE GOONS violently abducted a father. The Goons smashed a car window, beat and dragged the man at gunpoint, while his teenage son filmed the incident and begged them to stop. The father has not been seen since. (November 11, 2025)

Key point whenever you see an Altman prediction: the purpose of his predictions is *not* to accurately guess the future but build rationales in the present favorable to his company's interests. If you ignore everything he says you'll be smarter about AI.
Altman, and all these folks don't make predictions in order to predict the future, they make them to a) justify an overclocked corporate valuation, and b) argue for undoing regulations and receiving government support.

I wanted to share probably the most important sermon I’ve given and it’s while I’m being arrested. It’s torture pure and simple what happens at #Broadview. I’m ok, though I was thrown to the ground and choked with my pectoral cross. A review of the video shows I was peaceful - did I deserve this?

1. Scandal politics win elections pretty often.

2. THIS scandal divides the GOP more than affordability or really anything.

3. If Dems want to win the fight (pry the files loose, rather than give up after Trump says no) they need to make a referendum out of it. www.offmessage.net/p/force-a-re...

made a similar point on the opinions podcast this week in response to the idea that epstein is a dead end. not only are actual voters interested in this but it divides the gop and puts pressure on the president. it would be political malpractice to treat it as a sideshow

Stop panicking: They are the most progressive generation ever, especially on race. If that surprises you, you’ve been listening to the wrong story.
