The Epstein revelations of the past few months suggest that these conspiracies actually do represent reality in some way— plainly speaking, some of the most powerful people in the world were communicating with one another through the kingpin of an alleged child-sex-trafficking operation. But the emails also prove that the truth is dumber than fiction. These global elites are far from organized and hyper-competent— it feels like how Veep would have treated Anon. The elites don't message with sex pests using code words; they openly muse about having fun with girls at "Hawaiian Tropic" parties. As more revelations are made public, it may feel like the conspiracy theorists have won. But they've been wrong as well. Cabal is too flattering a word for this crowd of cosplaying, hunt-and-peck email addicts. Conspiracy theories are a flawed tool meant to help make sense of a nonsensical world. The truth is darker: You don't need an elaborate master plan to dodge accountability when everyone's all too willing to simply look the other way.

And to those who doubt, who cannot quite believe, who share our vision but fear allowing themselves to hope, I ask you: When has dignity ever been given? The same questions asked of us were asked of organized labor, were asked of the civil rights movement, were asked of any who had the nerve to demand a future they could not yet see: Could they not wait? Could they not see that they were asking too much? They knew that we do not get to determine the scale of the crisis that we face. We only get to decide how we respond. We know that every great victory must be won because it will never be given. When organized labor won the weekend, so that working people would have time to rest — that was power won, not given. When those who came before us marched for voting rights and civil rights, they triumphed because they dared to dream, not because they were given permission by a political establishment content with the status quo. When millions of seniors were lifted from lives of poverty with Social Security, that’s because Americans were sick of a bad deal and wanted a new one instead. And the New York we love was made by those who refuse to settle for less. Great leaders like Fiorella La Guardia taught us that aspiration is something to embrace, not something that we treat as a crime. When we shake loose the shackles of small expectations, our city builds parks and hospitals, and we show the world that ambition and compassion are in fact intertwined.

1/ As a mom of 2 young men, I found this article to be thoughtful & nuanced. People are quote-posting one of the author's other comments in his thread on men "getting laid" but that thought taken out of its context does not actually represent the overall piece at all.

e.g. this section:
Men get themselves into a terrible muddle when they become obsessed with securing female attention. It becomes a self-refuting prophecy. The more fixated they become, the more desperate they appear, and women can smell sexual desperation from the other side of the room. The best possible advice you can give to someone who is trying and failing to get this attention is to stop trying. If you run towards it, it will take a step away from you. If you turn your back on it, you will find it there in front of you. Instead, dedicate yourself to your professional life or your personal interests. Whatever it is, paid or unpaid - a source of skill and accomplishment that you will seek to maximise through diligence and hard work. This will, in the end, make you much more attractive. You will present like what you have become: an impressive and talented person who cares about what they do, does it well, is in control of their life and can protect the people around them. It will also, and this is not a bad corollary, do more good for the world. You will be operating in the most socially valuable way possible. You will have maximised your contribution. You will make the world better. And by doing so you will improve yourself. You can see the same dynamic in the way you treat women. The key lesson here is very simple, although many men will never learn it: Don't objectify women, because it'll mess you up more than it messes them up.
