In Canada, we love to talk about the weather, but what aboot the DARKNESS, eh?

From November to March I do nothing after 6pm, and the only reason that isn't 5pm is because I have to work and eat and stuff.
If it helps anyone, I have a couple of tips for dealing with holiday left-overs:

- Make lunch-size meals, label and freeze. Or freeze in larger containers for future meals.

- (This one is sneaky) If you can't freeze it, put it in a different container and clean it up so it looks new. 😉

I still have left-overs from Christmas in my fridge that I should eat or toss. I hate wasting food but it's such a mis-match of things that I can't figure out how to use them except to pick away at them, one at a time.

I am not usually one to argue with the Simpsons, but I do think you can win friends with salad. You're not going to bat 1000, but some people will dig it.

Strawberries and home-made cream are in the fridge, my house smells like warm vanilla. Come over!

Just a 40 degree temperature spread over 24 hours with rain on top of snow. Fantastic.

After chasing the snow shovel for an hour, she's happy to settle in front of the TV and watch her favourite show, For the Love of Dogs.

I shoveled out the driveway and the front door and I think I froze my legs. I am warming up with a grown-up hot chocolate and a shortbread cookie.

I don't understand why we keep going around and around with Trump's "peace" negotiations. He's a Russian asset either purposefully or by stupidity. Someone else needs to step in.

The house has been De-Christmased. I carried the tree outside and cleaned up all the needles, with no help from shaggy dog who laid in the needles then tracked them all over the house.

Our Boxing Day guests weren't able to make it so I'm going to have to get creative to use up the menu items I'd planned. What can I make with a litre of whipping cream? Or, is it OK for me to eat a bowl of whipped cream?

This year, millions of Canadians made the choice to buy Canadian — and by introducing our new Buy Canadian Policy, so did Canada’s new government.

Here’s to buying more Canadian in 2026.

I have a problem.

I really want to buy Christmas tree ornaments on sale but I don't want to leave the house.

I was really proud of the work I put in this year, bringing back recipes I remember from decades ago. We weren't able to be with family this year, but it felt like everyone was there, even those who have passed on.

My Nana died when I was 15. She made buns, and no one has carried that on so I haven't had a homemade bun in a very long time.

Tonight, I'm making buns. The recipe is old and incomplete but it's in her handwriting and if these even come close, my only regret will be that my mom isn't here with me.

I will miss the kids tomorrow but I did realize that when it's just Hubs and I on Christmas morning, Santa comes when we say Santa comes.

By the groceries I just bought, you might think I'm hosting 20 this year. In fact, I'm hosting 2 for Christmas. Then 4 more on Boxing day, so, two nice meals. 20 on Christmas would have been easier.
