In April 2009, the Washington Post asked 10 writers to make the case for something that deserves to be tossed out as part of "spring cleaning."

I chose Larry Summers.

Better late than never.

Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

It's important to track how many citizens are kidnapped by ICE. But I'll keep hammering the point that it simply does not matter if someone is native-born or undocumented — NO ONE deserves to be brutalized by glorified rent-a-cops in a fascist state. There are no "innocent" victims. Just victims.

Normally people don’t stress much about the odds of giving up six runs in a single inning, but I’m a Mariners fan and that’s its own kind of generational trauma.

Tried to get my real ID. I had my license, my SS card and my birth certificate.

I was not allowed to get my real ID because my birth name is different than my married name. Now I have to go dig up a marriage certificate. You know who wouldn’t have to do this? A man.

Never change your last name.

I'm so tired of hearing that we need to "teach our students how to use AI" when the thing they most need to use it is a critical-thinking skill set that can only be acquired by NOT using it. I'm tired of hearing that it's inevitable. I'm tired.

There's no gray area to who gets rights.

It's shitty to suggest we oppress anyone, period, but pragmatically, once you've scapegoated one community, you've invited the vampire in to un-people more communities.

That's how you sit there wondering why the leopard ate your face, too.

Reading every day about "AI" everything is exhausting, on top of all the other dire, more important news wearing us down daily. People say "AI is here, we have to deal with it." Or we could just not use it except where it can actually contribute in a meaningful way to people's lives and livelihoods.
"Showrunner" is niche/specialized enough as a term in television to see the extra insult they're piling on the injury here.

I got permission to share this, and I'm extremely grateful for that.

The Onion got this letter from one of our subscribers in Alaska. She works with dementia patients and decided to leave a copy in the car for each one.

This email made my year. Read it and you'll see what I mean. People are good.

Anyone can become disabled at any time. It’s one of the few minority groups you can always join.

Even if you do everything “right”. Even if you’re young and healthy. Even if you “try hard”

It’s not a moral failing. It’s a part of life. Engage in disability justice.

My friend and I were at a Groundlings show in LA around 2013 or so & were laughing & commiserating -LOUDLY- about early menopause in the women's room during the break. A stall door opens and out walks Helen Hunt - clearly avoiding eye contact w/ us. My friend and I just fled in mortification.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie
