Republicans are trying to jam a bill through the Senate that:

-Cuts $900B from Medicaid
-Kicks millions off their health care
-Raises grocery costs for 40 million Americans
-Adds $4.2T to the deficit

All to cut taxes for billionaires. Rotten to its core.

Part of the problem is the actual energy utility industry either thinks the GOP is posturing, or is so deep into their renewables switch that the IRA is meaningless to them. And to be fair it's really hard to take anybody who thinks another coal plant willl ever be built remotely seriously.

Wow. This whole piece about Natalie Phelps, from CBS and Ted Koppel.

Trump, Russell Vought and Musk attacked NIH—to privatize US science and harm universities.

And patients like Natalie have been harmed. She’s now waiting for her potentially life-saving treatment at #NIH. 🧪
“Phelps was invited to NIH… "When I was invited, I had cancer patients congratulating me. They were like, 'You made it!' It's like making it into the Olympics when you're a cancer patient."

“The clinical trial is run by Dr. Steven Rosenberg, a legend in the field of cancer research”

this is literally a plan to do this, published in plain writing by the party that currently controls the government. if you want resistance to alarmism treated as an intellectual stance rather than an affective posture you'll need something in the vicinity of a reason

If you say that America is poised to institutionalize a police state - that the reality of concentration camps and regularized disappearances will become an ongoing facet of life - you'll still receive eye-rolls and clucked tongues. But that is not a possibility of this budget, it is the purpose.
this is the level of funding where all the possibilities for American politics that have been described as hyperbolic over the past decades - the comparisons to Nazi Germany and other nightmares of the 20th century - become logistically possible and politically likely

We the People need to do it. We are the foundation of the Constitution.
Most of our lives have been shaped by the Warren Court & the notion that SCOTUS is a benign oversight body that directs our government towards expansive applications of fairness, equality, and justice. We don’t have that body now so we’ll have to push government in that direction ourselves.

Boom!
Just the right response to today’s outrageous Supreme Court decision letting Trump strip Americans of their birthright citizenship ⬇️
BREAKING: if the Supreme Court wants a class action to hold Trump's birthright citizenship unconstitutional nationwide, we will give them one!

We @democracydefendersaction.org just filed with our wonderful partners @aclu.org, NAACP LDF, LULAC & more

Help us cause some good trouble by doing a virtual Facebook “check-in” at Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport today.

The more people who check in, the harder it is for surveillance tools to track who’s actually there. It’s a simple but powerful way to show up and support from a distance.

These motherfuckers are even worse imo bc they are *also* out here using antebellum reasoning and pursuing antebellum goals but well post bellum!

this is just an observation but one way to think of the civil war is that it WAS about states rights, but the right in question was the right of free states to stay free
[whispers provocatively] the 1850 fugitive slave act is the model: reactionaries have the right to extend their authority across state lines, and their opponents have to actively assist them

The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it.

- Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders.

- Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.

A crime against humanity.
This is a travesty & a nightmare. The US was a founder of @gavi.org. It lowers global vaccine costs, has vaccinated 1B children, & averted 19M deaths. This pull out will cost 100s of thousands of children's lives a year - and RFK Jr will be personally responsible.
