I spent three days in the Auckland District Court watching the weirdest trial of the year.

Billionaires, secrets, conspiracy theories, denials of racism, contempt of court and twists at every turn. This case had it all.

This was clearly foreshadowed by ACT's Regulatory Standards Bill.

Some National Ministers and NZ First may say they'd repeal that, but they seem to be supporting the same dangerous approach in this new Bill.
BONKERS!

The Luxon Govt’s rewrite of the RMA laws allows companies to claim financial compensation (from taxpayers) when councils introduce rules to limit pollution or protect the environment.

Let that sink in.

This Bill could invalidate the votes of enough people to swing the next election in favour of the current government for no reason other than that they failed to fill out the correct piece of paper by the "proper" time (as defined by the people who benefit from the rule change).
Justice Committee recommends passing Electoral Amendment Bill with some amendments
The bill would prevent same-day enrolments, ban prisoners from voting, and tighten up the rules around treating.

The question of asset sales seens to arise three or four years after tax cuts.

2010: tax cuts
2014: partial asset sale of powercos & AirNZ

2024: tax cuts
2026/27: asset sales? (If Nats win next year)

The reason is blindingly obvious: tax cuts means less tax revenue.Nats have to make up shortfall.

Love how National proudly opposed the Treaty Principles Bill, and wore it like a badge of honour.

Then basically rolled it out anyways. They’re dismantling and removing anything that honours the treaty, and undermining Māori.

Without consultation too like yesterday.
Depressing.
