Yorkshireman lost in Ottawa. Cat lover. Time lord. Nostalgic old crank. Huddersfield Town supporter.

A wee bit about me to my new followers. Originally from West Yorkshire (Dewsbury), currently live in Canada's capital, but have lived all over western Canada, and in the U. S.
Former radio guy. Married to a red headed viking, massive football fan (both kinds) and cat dad to 2 cats.
Ottawa is broken.
Dear @en.ottawa.ca @mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social
Can someone please explain to me why the Scott cycling infra doesn't get plowed past IPD?

Do we stop plowing roads at intersections? No, we do not.

Do better. People need this infra to get to work.

I'm in one of the city's new affordable housing units.
We used to get our hallway floors mopped every day, until a few months ago. They've been mopped once since the summer. I got so tired of looking at the condition of my hallway, I did it myself. I am not an employee, this isn't my job.

Ottawa is broken.
What an absolute joke our city government is.

Tim Tierney should be proud to be on the side of the decision that led to our championship soccer team playing in Hamilton.

I have to admit, I'm starting to become a big fan of #conefest
I ❤️ #conefest!!

A quick #winter look at the #Ottawa Traffic Cone Festival today at the #sailing club.

Remember the #conefest motto: "traffic cones for no reason at all!!"

This is a great story. I loved the part where the dispatcher says drivers can not refuse a passenger and must take what they're assigned.

It was the Daily Double, which the contestant did not get.
The redhead and I laughed when we saw the clue.
Via Matt Kaunisviita on the other place.

Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe was part of a Jeopardy clue tonight.

Sure, the sidewalk on your street still hasn’t been properly plowed, the bus you waited for this morning never showed up and your LRT journey was once again delayed by a stopped train. But at least the police will have the money they need to ride around the ByWard Market on their horsies.

Imagine a tourist experiencing this coming from a country with an actual rail system that works and is consistently on time. Like, this is the most embarrassing shit. We're a series of resource extraction companies masquerading as a nation and we don't even have a railway worth a damn.

Via Rail’s quality of service is far, far below international standards – Canadians need to stop normalizing this:

“Via Rail passengers arrived in Ottawa more than 12 hours late on Thursday, after “serious mechanical issues” forced them to spend the night sitting on a train in Brockville, Ontario”
Via Rail passengers spend night on train in Brockville, Ont. after ‘operational constraint’

Everything in this country has gone from bad to worse. No matter who is providing the service or what it is.
No one around here could organise an orgy in a brothel.
Not sure those unfamiliar with the geography of Eastern Ontario appreciate how absurd it is Via forced passengers to sleep overnight at the station in Brockville

Brockville is only an hour and a half drive from Ottawa. Via couldn’t get buses to shuttle them back? How is there no contingency plan?

The right team has won the Amazing Race.
Kind of had a feeling it would be them.
And good on them for tipping their cab driver on the final leg a nice $700 for his time.

For people who want Ontario to put American booze back on the shelves and send the proceeds of the sales to food banks...why don't you make a donation. Whatever you were going to spend on that bottle, send it to your local food bank
Put your money where your mouth is.

Smh councillors calling the biggest increase in the
@ottawapolice.bsky.social budget in the last 15 years "reasonable."

There is *nothing* reasonable about giving the OPS a $30 million budget increase while we can't even provide enough emergency services for people.

It's absurd.

They aren't really friends yet, but tonight, they've been very good with each other. This is the closest they've come to cuddling. It was a massive breakthrough in their relationship.

I initially read this as "yellow snowfall warning."
Everyone in eastern Ontario is writing their names in the snow tonight

And! Your public library most likely offers access to the major newspapers. You can just login & check out the day's stories (or past ones) for free.

She's not wrong.
Definitely support community and campus radio, as we're about to lose CHUO 89.1 in a few days unless some miracle occurs.
It is profoundly obnoxious to say "PAYWALLED! 😡" at news articles because even back in the day, you had to pay a kid in a cute hat to get the newspaper.

But also, support the CBC! And community radio! And campus media!

Hell, if it's breaking news, it'll be on CTV, CP24 and Global, too!

No, you just like the first half of it.
The back half of it can do one.
