It’s very buoying to be able to be CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC for the future of progressive politics at the moment. I was told for several years by hands-on-hips Sensible Grownups that I was silly, deluded and ALSO DANGEROUS to still believe in socialism but I guess the left wasn’t dead after all.
"SIR KEIR STARMER and his Cabinet face losing their seats to Left-wing candidates, analysis shows.

"Labour’s 411-seat majority would plummet to just 126 seats if an election took place this summer, it suggests." [Sunday Telegraph]

One of the most-quoted experts on racism on the left, here. Remember how I said at the time that the great authorities being quoted were themselves far right cranks with pretty horrible views?

Speak up against genocide in England and you're treated like a criminal

Up the Mary Wallopers 💚🤍🧡

You should all follow this guy. He’s really, really good.
Today is my last day at Georgetown.

After 18 years of teaching history, and 12 years as a full-time professor in Germany and the U.S., it’s the end of my university career.

I will now try to make it as an independent writer and commentator - which is exciting and terrifying. Stick with me, please!

They invented a machine where everyone could talk to each other, organise and say anything they liked to politicians, the press and celebrities so within fifteen years of its invention a very rich man bought it and changed it into a machine for repeating racial slurs and conspiracy theories.

The thing is, he will deny the supreme court’s ruling & there will be an outcry, but in time that will subside & he’ll have more power. This is how a far right power grab works. The only thing that will stop this man i fear is a better aimed bullet than the guy who tried last time.
Maddow: 88% of the country says no, no, he cannot defy a supreme court ruling. Only 9% say yes he can. And you know, it's not the same thing. But I should mention that 9% is also the proportion of Americans who told yougov this week that they have a favorable view of the black plague

All this talk of a weak Premier League … a fundamental reason why Arsenal are so far behind Liverpool is because they’ve only won 18 of 34 games this season. 16 times, therefore, their opponents have been a match for them, or better. Which, I’d suggest, is an indication of a strong Premier League.

I wrote about how, just three months after Trump took power, constitutional protections now come with a disclaimer:

“Unless the regime decides otherwise.”
How the Republic Falls
Constitutional protections suspended. The government purging “alien enemies” and the “enemy within.” Three months into Trumpist rule, despotism is rising in America

Starmer is absolutely appalling in front of the camera. Thin skinned, an obvious liar, forgetting what he said last week and quick to anger.
If he thinks Labour is tanking now, just see what two weeks of Sir Keir on TV does to the polling.

These people simply don’t understand that the reason they get grief from the left on Twitter & now Bluesky is’t cos these platforms are full of unreasonably trolls. On the contrary it’s ordinary people making perfectly fair points but these MPs think it’s unfair that they should ever be challenged.
I mean get a grip. This channel used to be a better place than Twitter. Now this is the level of discourse.
Would you have done the same in the 1930s, Andrew? Put “jobs and livelihoods” first, and made a trade deal with Germany?

Legalising weed? The voters are wrong. So it feels like the voters are only really right about a few things in the end actually, and they’re all really right wing

Yes. And I know lots of politicians who do that (on a smaller scale) - I know I do, most recently to the legalise cannabis guy who came to my surgery

The replies to this are all Reform voters who think he is a lying joke and people desperate to avoid a Reform government in 2029 who think he is a lying danger. Writing an anti-immigrant oped for the Daily Mail isn't winning anybody over.

Just imagine if you’d agitated for Jeremy Corbyn, under who’s leadership things would have been far more to your liking.
The truth is, there is only one language that Labour speaks and that is the language of political pain. For so long as Keir Starmer thinks we'll all go crawling back to Labour at the next Election he will continue to court the Reform vote. We need to tell him we won't.
