@ncc-ccn.gc.ca didn't even cross this guy's mind not to just drive and park right down the middle of the path in middle of morning rush hour, never mind there was no good reason for him to be there at all. if Black & McDonald employees are this inconsiderate, they're definitely not good

What does it take to move 1000 people? Better infrastructure supporting mobility choices that don’t take up so much space (or produce so much emissions/pollution, cost so much public money, etc).

I recently submitted a Letter to the Editor to my city’s newspaper, making the case for supporting active infrastructure within their 300-word limit.

My hope was simple. If just one person sees this topic in a new way, it’s worth it. And I’d encourage other advocates to do the same where they live.

“One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss.”

“Which means that Copenhagen, a city of 1.2 million people, saves $357 million a year on health costs because something like 80% of its population commutes by bike.” #CityMakingMath

Some costs aren’t costs.
One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss
Copenhagen, the bicycle-friendliest place on the planet, publishes a biannual Bicycle Account, and buried in its pages is a rather astonishing fact.

Canada's national motoring association suggests building more safe, connected, and protected on-street bike lanes as one of the pillars to help ease congestion in cities.

PSA: This is an example of proper bike parking design. Staple rack, sunken fasteners not accessible at the surface by tools, good spacing from any solid obstacles.

According to the City of Paris, in the last 10 years 150K trees have been planted & 45ha of parks created in the already hot city, all intended to not only improve quality-of-life today, but also help the city adapt to & manage summer heatwaves of 50℃ (122F) by 2050.

Just the start.

Common sense.

We want to live in a city where all of us can thrive: with enough places to call home, with clean air & water, with trees & nature, with safe streets, where we help our neighbors.

That future looks brighter when we can choose to go by bicycle.

The fact that CBC was too cowardly to film this is indicative of a much bigger problem in media.

When layoffs come, they tend to target journalists who are "problems" for management, who question authority.

This is what you lose when you only keep the journalists who are deferential to authority:
The British media outlet ITV also went on a Jordanian airdrop and simply ignored the Israeli government’s illiberal demands:

Drivers always minimize speeding by saying things like, "Oh, I was only going 10 mph over the speed limit." But those 10 miles per hour can literally be the difference betwen life and death for a pedestrian or bicyclist.
