(sorry to ask a silly question but: why would anyone who knows better appeal to Grok, a concoction of a narcissistic multi-billionaire to support his world-view? like leafing through the Aryan Nation Handbook.)
I stand corrected - Turns out, Elon *did* have Grok reprogrammed to be his Emotional Support LLM, presumably in the aftermath of the narcissistic injury @joycecaroloates.bsky.social gave him

Man, I wish I'd asked grok if it would be ethical to go back in time and kill Hitler in 1924 — thus averting WW2 and the Holocaust — if the resulting change to the timeline meant that Elon Musk would have never been born. Alas, we will have to wait for the next time Joyce Carol Oates makes Elon sad.

when I was young, i used to wonder how people like this would fare in life, as they didn't seem suited for gainful employment. it turns out, the internet allowed them to accumulate a massive audience of similar idiots, enriching them and turning them into a presidential advisor

Been fascinated by the idea of a Great Meme Reset ever since I first heard about it. Originally, I was trying to parse how it would be possible to rewind the internet. Then I really thought about what it could mean and why people might want to turn back time...

Oh, I don’t know. Our rivers no longer catch on fire and our air is far less poisonous than it used to be, even in smog bowls like Los Angeles. And I think those are good things.
If there’s no shale gas then there’s no shale gas, but I still think environmentalism is basically bad and politicians should focus more on material prosperity.

We’re watching a shift where AI simulates the cohesion and reinforcement that used to require an entire online community. A single person can now build a complete parallel reality with nothing more than a prompt window. Which seems bad.

LLMs give people with delusional belief systems a way to organise those beliefs. The model fills in gaps, supplies connective tissue, and wraps the madness in formal language.
It doesn't make the claims more credible to us, it just tidies them up.
