Every year, people mock this tree. But I love it anyway.

It reminds us that if we stand together in tough times, we can overcome anything.

Merry Christmas from my family to yours. 🎄✨

A new year’s wish that we all start framing paying taxes as positive and patriotic contribution to a better world for all. Thank you Anthony Joshua! I’ve just paid mine too. They were quite a lot less than yours, but for some reason most historians don’t earn £68.5m.
He isn't "losing" this money. This is called "paying tax like a responsible citizen and not hiding your money offshore" and we need to start recognising and applauding it.

So the guy who made racist comments, and is being supported by a party with a track record of racism, led by a man who also made racist comments, made other racist comments.

Reform not exactly doing a great job of arguing it isn't a party for racists.

“The fact Farage has failed to take any action against Chris Parry despite his first racist comments being exposed 12 days ago shows what a weak leader he is. He is dragging his party further into the gutter and is unfit for high office.“

Reminded of when, during lockdown, the Princess Bride became an actual folk tale, to be retold, lovingly.

Warning: that ending might choke you up a bit.

I think the best way to explain the X vs Bluesky preference is whether a person thinks the left is more annoying than the right is dangerous.

The reason so many Noah Smiths end up on the X side of that equation is that while the left annoys them personally, the right mostly endangers other people.

Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

This does feel like a major crossing of the Rubicon – the world's best-funded and in many ways most powerful public health agency is now actively pushing disinformation.

I know there's a *lot* going on to care about at the moment, but this one really is significant, and matters well beyond the US.
The CDC website now disseminates disinformation about vaccines, claiming erroneously that infant vaccines might cause autism, when we know conclusively that they do not. It is difficult to overstate just how dangerous this is. www.cdc.gov/vaccine-safe...

A policy designed for people who will never vote Labour that will very, very obviously drive people who might vote Labour away. The politics of moral depravity and total stupidity that only hastens the arrival of a democracy-ending, EHRC leaving, net zero abandoning far right government.
This is as bad as anything proposed by Reform.

Aside from the cruelty of this, I’d just like to know why it’s ok to ignore and disappoint liberal/progressive voters.
Why do governments chase Farage and his voters, thinking that will neutralise them. It’s NEVER worked. He’s leading in the polls and his ideas have ruined us. WTF are you doing?
