Not really sure how this can be solved, its very obvious in rural parts of Poland, Spain, or Italy I have been. Poland the transition is dramatic, outside of the main urban areas, its like two different economies

Find the idea that the Pope & IRA are some important corner stone of anything in Ireland now bit old timey. Some poor quality 1980s dated chanting material

My main takeaway from the Intersolar / the smarter E Europe exhibition in Munich is that batteries are the new solar. 4 buzzing halls of products, trying to claim a differentiation that doesn't exist, in a rapidly growing market. 14GW of batteries built in Europe + Turkey last year.

Good question I seen on the other site. When will be the first instance of EU countries start processing political asylum cases from USA on the grounds of Geneva Convention and voicing of political opinions? And how do deal with aggressive admin that wants those people @aphclarkson.bsky.social

With US treasuries sell off, reupping this.

Euro is too small to replace or even rival the dollar as global reserve currency, but the EU/ECB can do a lot to grow the international role of the euro and stabilise global financial system (which draws on @jvtk.bsky.social et al's work)
What would it take for euro to dethrone king US dollar?
As Trump ramps up his trade war, two economists outline how Europe could finally turn the euro into a global currency.

With UK on 10% and Ireland on 20% tariff. Assume there will just be massive boon to cross border trade. All EU trade via Dublin to Belfast. Singapore on the Lagan.

Related in the EDIP:

Articles 14 and 22(2)(c) describe the creation of a pool of defense products to ensure immediate availability for Member States, associated countries, & Ukraine.

Article 14(1)(a) mentions the establishment of "a single, centralised, up to date catalogue of defence products"

In theory if council votes to suspend a member. And it passes. And then you go to suspend second member. Is the first suspend member included. Because if it isn't. I can see suspending ladder, the clear solution to giving Lithuania the voice it needs. Total EU control. @dov.bsky.social

Seen this sentiment before, even among friends. Got to say. it's too much bring the world problems upon your shoulders. Have kids, it's great. Going be astounding amounts of ups and downs. It will be at least 18 years before they leave. What was the world like 18 years ago. Life like 18 years ago
man just *thinking* about having a kid with all the shit going on gets me upset, I can only imagine people who actually have children impacted by all this being like radioactively angry

MASSIVE FISCAL PACKAGE OUT OF BERLIN: 12-20%+ of GDP.

- 500 billion fund for public investment
- All defence spending above 1% of GDP not counted for debt brake.
- Federal states can borrow 0.35% p.y. for investment.

Germany is back - economically and militarily.

The suspension of U.S. assistance for Ukraine is a very unfortunate and significant development, but it may not have immediate impact. Ukraine is far less dependent on the U.S. for day to day battlefield needs in 2025, than it was in earlier periods of the war. 1/

Energy Transition in Europe is this underapperciated background thing, that keeps just trending only one direction, by any metric, even the most conservative, if you take into account current costs, learning curve cost declines and deployment, the Europe of 2030-35 is strategically very different

Found the contrast interesting. If you lurk too on the crypto friendly parts of the interwebs, its becoming less and less positive, and more that this is the ultimate rug pull. There is vibe shift building even in Trump friendly spaces, see the econ numbers beginning to hit end of this month too.

The maintenance *is* the resilience! The technician is as much the system as the wires or the motors. Technology is activity, not artifact.
Folks think things are resilient, but really they're fragile, but had constant maintenance and inspection, so they never noticed.
The Bay Area weather radar (KMUX) has been out of service for more than 24 hours now. An expensive broken part needs to be replaced and specially ordered, but that may not be possible due to ongoing freeze on government credit card spending, I’ve been told.

Really like this piece by @himself.bsky.social his core idea, that the primary problem isn't disinformation but "degraded democratic publics" seems better avenue to explore. Distinction mattters. Because it effect how we perceive what others believe, and we are very social creatures
