Might now be good to remember that Putin doesn’t control all of Russia in spite of it existing as the hollow shell of its former self, but because of it

the trend towards monopoly and corruption also explains the hostility to liberalism. the thing about liberal neutrality is that it is an obstacle to the kind of patronage relationships that are facilitated by corruption.

Mandate? Trump is now under 50% in the popular vote with his margin ranking 44th out of 51 elections since 1824.

4 Democrats won Senate seats in states Trump carried—compared to zero in 16 and 20.

GOP poised for its smallest House majority since the U.S. had 50 states.

Oh my
WOW!

More people are visiting Bluesky than Threads, even though Bluesky has far fewer users and isn’t linked to the world’s largest social network. Incredible.

BlueSky is now approximately 50% the sweetest, most earnest posting about the niche-est of niche interests and 50% gay guys asking if they should like broadcast a live scope of their duodenum. I love it 😃

Smart point here and a huge part of the story of trump’s success imo. Also something that the Dems have just completely failed to effectively internalize, further tying what should be the progressive party to an unpopular status quo.
And because Trump is such wrecking ball, you end up in this defensive posture of pro-system, pro-status quo. HHS/FDA is a great example.

still-unresolved elections i'm watching (though that doesn't mean there isn't a somewhat likely outcome):

—Alaska's RCV referendum
—House: #CA13, #CA41, #CA45, #AKAL
—North Carolina supreme court
—recounts in Minnesota House (& final counts in ME & NH)
—Maricopa board

anything else on your mind?

I saw this over on Threads, and I think this is a good point in regards to Dems getting blamed for campaigns they didn't actually run:

"A lot of people voted against (perceived) Democratic voters rather than Democratic candidates."

Probably saved Baldwin, as it gave Dems who haven't had much reason to vote for state leg races a great reason to vote.

Rs are currently on pace to win 220-221 House seats

4 House Rs are reportedly being considered to join the Trump admin:

Rogers (AL)
Graves (MO)
Stefanik (NY)
Thompson (PA)

If all are nominated & confirmed, that would mean they’d have 0-1 votes to spare until special elections
