Do you honestly think people in the civil rights movement and other nonviolent movements faced no violence themselves? They practiced nonviolence because it works, because the oppressor wants a shooting war, which is the war it will win
How's your non-violent working Mr Gandhi stancil? They will kill each and everyone of you right if they had the chance and you will still be writing Kumbaya.
Observers have been working day and night to protect these neighborhoods from ICE, make the streets safe so kids can go to school and people can go to their jobs. Burning down the street undoes all our work. The people setting fires haven’t been putting in long hours watching plates or doors.

If this is how this administration responds to a Senator with a question, you can only imagine what they're doing to farmworkers, to cooks, and to day laborers throughout California and across the country.

We will hold this administration accountable.

That’s 7 million acres. In the first week of June. It is imperative that all prepare for wildfire to impact their homes and communities.
Active forest fires in BC, AB and ON today. GOES-West mid-ir showing active and extremely active fires (white and red respectively) in BC and AB. Another active day tomorrow for BC & AB and area burned in Canada will likely hit 3 million ha soon. Only 2023 had more area burned at this time of year.

Gentle reminder to anyone who needs it today: The more you use technology to replace the things you used to do for for yourself, the less you will be able to do them. That goes for writing, walking, thinking, communicating, making things, and all the things humans used to be pretty good at.

I remember Reagan, his budget director, and the GOP pushing the fewer taxes/more revenue falsehood, the Laffer curve, and trickle down economics. All junk science disproven by empirical evidence over 40+ years. Yet they still cling to it, and we continue to be worse off because of it.

Washington has bet its fiscal future on the assumption that interest rates remain below 4% forever. If they are wrong - and the 10 year Treasury is currently at 4.5% - an eventual debt spiral awaits.

The combination of soaring debt and rising interest rates poses a major risk.

Forcing people to pay $130 for a passport in order to vote is just a Jim Crow poll tax by another name.

It is blatantly unconstitutional.

Looking like high time for a general strike!
Trump’s “DESTROY ALL LABOR UNIONS” executive order from last night must be stopped, rescinded, and buried deep in the ground.

Even if a judge blocks it temporarily, we must not stop fighting it with full force until it is gone for good.

Hot take from a rank and file voter: divorce yourself from lobbyist money and influence, your may find yourself with a much wider range of options.
Democrats talking about fighting Trump sound a little like the time Stephen Colbert cracked that he was about to begin considering whether or not to run for president
Dems Want to Fight Trump. They’re Not Sure How.
They’re hoping everyone else will pick up the slack.

Yeah pretty much sums it up.
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

I try so hard to persuade friends and family of this line of thinking with every election. Seems lost on many on both sides of the aisle.
I truly hope that one silver lining we take from this coup is that voters begin to understand that when you vote for president, you’re not just selecting one person. You’re selecting all the judges they’ll appoint, and the entire cabinet.

As corrupt and unconstitutional as it gets.
Several others have aptly summarized this. Republicans now get a number where they can call Elon and ask for the law to be followed for things that were cut but which they want back. So Elon is in charge of federal spending. And you can go to him hat in hand.
Like huh it’s almost as if this information is inconsistent with the government’s representations in court that Amy Gleason, not Musk, is in charge of DOGE, and that agency heads, not DOGE, are responsible for the cuts

Yes, very worth attention to this. This is not a level of government function that most Americans can live with.
This might sound like a dig or hyperbole. But not enough mention of this. It says quite explicitly in 2.11 Exec Order that end-state level after all cuts is permanent level of govt to equal what it is during a full government shut down. Seems like worth highlighting this?

Many avenues for this: Indivisible, local Democratic Party, New Leaders Council, etc. Does there exist a “citizens union” of sorts for those folks who don’t work in an entity large enough to unionize on their own?
A reminder for these times.

Hell yeah. Rep Cliff Bentz doesn’t care about his constituents, glad we have responsive leaders who do. Thanks Rayfield, we’ll be there.
Arizona AG Kris Mayes, New Mexico AG Raul Torrez, and Oregon AG Dan Rayfield will begin holding Community Impact Hearings — a national series of townhalls "to hear from the public about the impact of federal firings and DOGE funding freezes across the country."

The first will be in Phoenix March 5.
