Look I'm no fan of any corp that collects user data. As they say, if the product is free, you're the product. So I have no great love of TikTok.
But the only difference between TikTok and, say, Meta, is *who* is collecting that data. And that makes a TikTok ban nothing more than xenophobia.

I have to emphasise that the people doing conversion therapy in 1962 on gay people were also doing it already on trans people. Read "Curing Queers: Mental Nurses and Their Patients, 1935–74" for some info on the specifics of the British system but this was everywhere.
The trans panic is just a rehash of old homophobic ideas, Exhibit A.

A key requirement for the continuation of abuse in the present is the erasure of both the abuse that has happened previously and the recorded evidence of harm that it caused. We never have perfect information about history but present abusers rely on us learning nothing from the abuse of the past.

The health of trans children should not be called a culture war and calling it as such shows how little you actually care about them as evidenced by you voting for the fucking bill, Bobby!
As we move forward, it is incumbent on Congressional Republicans and the incoming Trump Administration to ensure future NDAAs prioritize national security and servicemembers, not culture wars.

I know “found liable for rape in a court” isn’t as big a story as “rumored to have poor email security” but maybe the press can give this as much attention as they gave that?
This is a good question that all local reporters should be asking in their coverage — “did Trump have to register as a sex offender here?”
