We’re getting close. 5 days until the WHN NYE Party!

Beyond science sessions, the night will include interactive elements — games, trivia, music, and creative moments — because joy and connection matter, too.

Happy Friday! The morning showed the potential of something spectacular that didn't emerge, but in its place we got a very nice combination of opposing cloud and wave angles that made for a pleasing sunrise composition. Tap for full size. I hope you have a great day!

Yellow-legged mud daubers (Hymenoptera: Sphecidae: Sceliphron caementarium) are industrious wasps that can be found throughout North America. They keep busy feeding on nectar and pollen, building nests out of mud, and provisioning them with paralyzed insect prey. Clayton Michigan, 24 Jun 2013.

Graphocephala sharpshooters (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Graphocephala spp.) can be found in a variety of habitats throughout the Americas. They feed on a number of different plants, and like other leafhoppers they're quick to jump out of sight in the blink of an eye. Blissfield Michigan, 10 Jul 2011.

We had a big winter storm in the forecast for SoCal.
Here in the very southern part, we got a break after rain and high wind yesterday.
Christmas Day turned out picture perfect 🤩!
But more rain tomorrow, and we like that just as well.

For about 10 years, when our kids were young, I would do a quick sketch of our house on Christmas Eve after everything would quiet down. This is from 2016...gouache over acrylic, I think. Merry and Happy!

Emotions are by nature unstable. Otherwise we couldn’t recognize any change.

Trying to stabilize emotions is suffering. Imagining to be responsible for them is suffering too.

But you are not that. You are the stability behind their movements. You are the riverbed in which they flow.

The holidays are meant for connection, not illness.

COVID, flu, RSV & measles can spread easily during gatherings, often from people who don’t yet feel sick. COVID in particular remains airborne, persistent & capable of causing long-term health impacts — even after mild or asymptomatic infections.
