very little in the way of “Win Butler has yet to face any consequences for the multiple allegations of sexual misconduct” in here beyond briefly mentioning the TERRIBLE fact that AF also have an app called Circle of Trust, which is a wildly disgusting thing for someone w sexual allegations to make.

The Region of Waterloo is buying up farmland and threatening some farmers with expropriation, following the Doug Ford government's push for industrial land. The Narwhal, in collaboration with The Waterloo Record, has learned the site is for a future Toyota plant.

Hey KW! Call-out for meat in the seats. If you’re able, please attend Waterloo Region council this Wednesday night in support of our community members who use, work at, and live near the SCS (yes, many neighbours, including me, want it kept open).

Ugh, if you're on LinkedIn, head over there now and turn off the new AI training setting they quietly opted everyone into.

Here's the direct link if it works for you, if not, follow the instructions below. www.linkedin.com/mypreference...
So LinkedIn just fucking auto-added everyone to training their AI. Can't get the direct link to the setting to work right now, so, to turn it off in your LinkedIn account go to:

- Settings
- Data Privacy
- How LinkedIn uses your data
- Data for generative AI Improvement

Set it to Off.

Sad to say I'm cancelling my trip to World Fantasy. They asked me to be on disability panels, but ignored months of my pleading with them to have a real COVID policy. Every recent major con has been a spreader.

Many disabled attendees wrote to WFC with concern.

The result? This non-policy.

In 1994 the Pet Shop Boys were invited to perform 'Go West' at the Brit Awards.

They agreed and brought with them 3 separate choirs of miners. Some of those miners had marched with the gay and lesbian members of LGSM in the 1980s. It is one of the great, near-lost music moments

Alongside "who built Hadrian's wall?", another great example of knowledge falling foul of 'common understanding' is scurvy.

The Royal Navy discovered the cure for scurvy, won the Napoleonic War, humanity then lost that knowledge without realising, then got saved by two Norwegian guinea pigs 🧵 /1

Every time I see folks discussing "unfair advantages" among female athletes, it takes everything in my soul not screech "There Are No Athletic Testosterone Regulations For Men!"

Just... take a moment to unpack that. None. If a male athlete benefits from natural excess testosterone... Oh well.🤷🏾‍♂️

Bizarre decision-making. No facts have changed about the eclipse. Reasonable options were
1) Keep the schools open, give all kids safe eclipse glasses
2) Close the schools, make it the parents’ problem

But “decide to keep schools open then change a few days prior”? Not great.
