Wilhoit's law: Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

They fully intend to be exempt from the laws they enact. The hypocrisy is a flex.

My phone is doing all the same things from 2015 with only minimal benefits. The only reason we have to upgrade is increased software bloat.

We should actually just have phones that last 15 years now.

*High school debaters* know that when someone tries to change the subject, their argument is weak. It isn't the press' job to *help* them do it.
The subtext in JD Vance asking for "patience" on the economy: When leaders stop talking about current conditions and jump straight to rosy forecasts, they’re signaling the present isn’t defensible. That’s your cue to scrutinize the numbers, not just the narrative.

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

Both the threats against Senator Kelly et. al. and the attempt to impose a pro-Russian peace on Ukraine are huge scandals, and they're just what these people have done *this week*

This is the Scout Law (say it with me!): "A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent." Scouting America hasn't changed its values at all. It has simply recognized that they aren't exclusively male.
Is it a 'masculine value' to melt down about some new fake shit every week?

FYI, your library has movies you can check out for the holiday weekend. They may have toys, board games, or activity kits to check out for the kids and grandkids.

The library is awesome and you should check it out.

For shame.
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

The Founding Fathers required Senate confirmation for key appointments for a reason. Donald Trump doesn’t like that reason. It’s to ensure high ranking government officials are loyal to the country not just the president. That’s not what Trump wants. joycevance.substack.com/p/explanatio...

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

Finally catching up and watching this episode and for those who are only experiencing Ranma through the new anime, I hope you know that he used to be *worse*, that they actually toned him down from how he was in the manga and original anime
So just a warning before tomorrow’s Ranma episode: He will be introduced

Trump's economy is being held up by a massive AI bubble.

A recent study found that of 300 companies that owned generative AI tools, 95% reported zero return on their investments.

We will not entertain a bailout of these companies should this bubble pop.

Is it a threat to free speech when the President of the United States threatens to yank the broadcast license of a channel whose reporters are asking him challenging questions?

I ask because I feel like there used to be tons of pundits worried about free speech. Where'd they go?
Trump in response to an Epstein question: "ABC, your company, your crappy company is one of the perpetrators. I think the license should be taken away from ABC because your news is so fake and so wrong. And we have a great commissioner, a chairman, who should take a look at that."
