No matter how bad you imagine smallpox was, it was worse than that.
Ben Franklin on inoculation, after his son died from smallpox.

“In 1736, I lost one of my sons, a fine boy of four years old, by the small-pox, taken in the common way. I long regretted bitterly, and still regret that I had not given it to him by inoculation”.

the issue I have with these is that a journalist's mission is to inform, and while the audience is certainly informed by these insights it does not appear the people from whom these insights derive are in turn informed. it would be far more insightful if we got their reactions to being corrected
As usual with these panels, the overwhelming characteristic is nonexistent or false information. Every call to understand and empathize with Trump voters (which is fine in the abstract!) needs to grapple with this.

Despite knowing the people on the search warrant weren't there, the ICE arrest team STILL took this family's phones, laptops, and life savings — and refused to leave a BUSINESS CARD so they could ask to get it back!

This stuff is sadly not unique to ICE; it happens with regular police raids too.

Almost nobody is ok with it. But was it on your local news today? If not, nobody is going to know about it in order to not be OK with it.

Ppl oppose almost everything this administration is doing, when they’re told what those things are. But most people aren’t!
I don't get how anyone can possibly be okay with ending the WHI. This study has accrued decades of data from 42000 women and it is still going. It helps to address critical research gaps that have been allowed to go unfilled because of durable misogyny and provides invaluable insight into aging.

Sen. Durbin does what Bluesky demands, and instead of praise/thanks he gets dunked on more. It’s the way of (this tiny corner) of the world.

But don’t forget: he invented the whole notion of Dreamers/DACA, and (I just found out!) is the person responsible for banning smoking in all public spaces.

The chutzpah is jaw-dropping, as he is PERSONALLY trying to deport legal immigrants for their political speech in the United States.

Bone chilling.

A court ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to stay in the United States.

The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he was illegally removed. Trump is pretending he won the ruling 9-0.

No one should be above the law, most especially the President.

Ignoring a Supreme Court ruling to facilitate Kilmar Abrego Garcia's return isn't just cruel; it's unconstitutional.

They're saying the quiet part aloud — if they get away with it now, they'll do it to anyone.
