"Finally, President Trump might get a peace prize that would secure his place in history. It is the “Neville Chamberlain Peace Prize”—awarded by history to the leader of the country that most flagrantly sells out its allies and its values to an aggressive dictator."

I know all the political scientists on BlueSky are committed to hating on me, but I didn’t think it would be controversial to observe that a lot of left-of-liberalism political ideas have gained traction over the past ten years.
I don't think this is a correct description of America's party system.

Yep. There's a reason "no fanatic like a convert" is an old expression.
Even as a diehard atheist, I've noticed that those that were born and raised into Catholicism are usually cool, but many who convert into it as adults seem indistinguishable from the villains in The Handmaid's Tale. Maybe they like the aesthetics more than any actual Jesus teachings?

Most of the public know what’s going on with flags on lamp posts.

Crucially for the government, 78% of its 2024 voters think anti-minority sentiment is involved in flying England flags (versus just 15% who think it’s just a national pride thing).

They are getting the politics of this all wrong.
Why do people think England flags have been raised on lampposts?

White adults
National pride: 26%
Anti-migrant/minority sentiment: 49%
Both: 19%

Ethnic minority adults
National pride: 15%
Anti-migrant/minority sentiment: 55%
Both: 20%

Makes perfect sense, as soon as 'verified' accounts were monetised and open to everyone this was bound to happen.
X’s new “About this account” tool reveals that dozens of pro-Russian and MAGA accounts with tens of thousands of followers, long posing as American or Russian, are actually created and run from India, Bangladesh, and other South Asian countries.

'At one point, Trump even mused, “Some of his ideas really are the same ideas that I have.”' Trump is surely the most fickle president there's ever been.
Mamdani navigates Trump’s world with care.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, the day after her book came out, just announced she is resigning January 6th, 2026. I watched the whole video. You should too. She actually used the “cult” word to describe her fellow GOP. While my own values are unaligned with hers, I think there

Why are so many anti-extremist experts partisan progressives? It seriously dents the credibility of their statements, particularly when it comes to strategy on how to deal with problems.

Good grief. I just read the worthy replies to this post - full of bright Remainers for whom nothing but ideological purity and a full rejoining would do. All baffled why anyone would choose a halfway house.

Have these people never encountered... politics?
Oh, Customs Union again? Based on recent conversations I am pretty sure that any form of greater UK market access to the single market including this will require substantial financial contribution, alignment, and close to freedom of movement. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...
