I am a firm and true humanist. I try to live my life believing that, on average, every person you interact with means well and just wants to be heard.
But then I’ll remember some people spit their gum into urinals and there is no level of empathy that can excuse that.

No. You don't get a free pass for your authoritarian policies because someone you like was killed by someone who shouldn't have had a gun. Until common sense gun laws are passed, this will keep happening in our country.
