This seems to just be a good microphone with some pattern recognition software. Not AI.

Journalists are just positioning LLMs to take credit for *anything* achieved via a computer at this point.

Doesn’t matter if it’s a lie. As long as they can crowbar “AI” into the headline for clicks.

It’s weird how all these New Labour skeletons who successfully recaptured control of the party in 2020 are now crawling out of the woodwork to suggest Labour continue with the project of cracking down on minorities, backsliding on civil liberties, and unconditionally supporting the war US machine.

Too bad that our legal and institutional safeguards only work to prevent good policies. It would be cool if they also stopped the evil stuff

Remember that after the anti-trans SC ruling some 30 thousand people protested in London, on a few days' notice, and almost the entire media ignored it until they noticed a bit of graffiti on a statue and then reported on it but only within the context of "criminality."
Times: "Asylum protests swell across the UK " headline, reporting an underwhelming wave.

Leeds "draws 70"
Cardiff "disorganised + small"
Altrincham "*swelled* to around 200"
Cheshunt about 250
Chichester: about 100
Portsmouth: about 70 v 70 on each side

Perhaps, one day, schoolkids will study this squalid little chapter in British terror-panic history. When they do, I hope these two headlines from today are printed side by side, with clear annotation of which individual faced more outrage and condemnation.

I've started a new project in Southampton called Red Drinks. It's an opportunity for socialists/left-wing people particularly in their 20s and 30s to meet, build connections and talk politics.

Our first meet up will be in the evening Saturday 21st.

Any analysis concerned with potential downsides of social media needs something more sophisticated than “adversary-owned” to be credible. People just saw every US tech CEO grovel before a president-elect Dems themselves repeatedly called a literal fascist. This cheesy Cold War framing is unserious.
I’m concerned that Americans are flocking to a number of adversary-owned social media platforms. We still need a comprehensive and risk-based approach to assessing and mitigating the risks of foreign-owned apps.

My last article of 2024: Carceral urbanism doesn't address the anti-city politics embedded in the U.S. that just doesn't exist to the same degree in Europe and Asia. American cities are constantly shit on, starved of funds and sabotaged by our own leaders.

Why American Cities (Actually) Suck
My response to Noah Smith's case for Carceral Urbanism explaining what actually ails U.S. cities and it's not primarily law enforcement.
