Congratulations to all the Democratic candidates who won tonight. It’s a reminder that when we come together around strong, forward-looking leaders who care about the issues that matter, we can win. We’ve still got plenty of work to do, but the future looks a little bit brighter.

This is the crux and people need to just get over it and realize having children is more gooder than not lol. It's a large sacrifice you take on most directly for the benefit of another's life (your kid) and less directly for the benefit of your whole community.
We can argue up and down about why schools are different or path dependency or the practical effects of incentive structures or the rest but if you spend enough time doing this it becomes obvious none of that matters. It's just about status. They don't want parents to be deemed more gooder than not.

It's great that Trump's approval on stuff like immigration and crime is now underwater, but I also see a lot of over-optimism about this stuff that doesn't take the comparative polling into account.

at this point you have to acknowledge that there is no way that these guys don't try to mess with the 2026 midterms. there is absolutely no respect for the legitimacy of the opposition
Stephen Miller: "Eventually elections don’t carry the day because violence beats votes… When we see a muscular response from the federal government, it’s because we’re not going to let violence beat votes."

Is he implying federal intervention determines political legitimacy, not ballots or courts?

Incredibly infuriating article. A bunch of over educated morons who were too erudite and sophisticated to see obvious truths staring them in the face.

This version of Pete Buttigieg is as real as The Onion’s version of Diamond Joe Biden.
Donald Trump is invading blue states; this does not seem like a good time to write dystopian fanfiction about an imagined version of the Democratic Party.

The question is, why would Democrats bail Republicans out of their own mess like this?
I'd be shocked if GOP didn't give in on the ACA subsidies.

Easiest political move imaginable for them, and my guess is they've planned on "caving" on this for months but wanted the Dems to at least push them to a shut down to do it.
Trump: We would make a deal on Affordable Care Act subsidies.

ChatGPT's email is clearly better 😭
If you'd like to delight in a side-by-side comparison, here's Bari Weiss' reported note to CBS staffers (left) and the one I cooked up on ChatGPT with a quickly dashed-off prompt (right). Looking forward to hearing from you in the days and weeks ahead!

It's inspiring that a person can start a Substack and with nothing more than strong ideas, hard work, and the support of a few billionaires plus a corrupt FCC merger review process achieve a lucrative exit plus power over a television network.

Guys, I am NERDING out right now.

WE TOOK THIS PHOTO by holding up my little old iPhone 16 to the eyepiece of our telescope tonight. We were also able to see Saturn’s rings, which looked like a line through the middle of a small bright dot.

IN AWE.

This video of Chicagoans intervening to save a man from being abducted off the streets by ICE is making the rounds on Instagram.

A WILD ONE: A man broke his leg during an arrest by ICE at a car wash south of L.A.

ICE has held him under 24/7 guard at a hospital, registering him under a pseudonym, for *37 days* without telling him why.

A judge has ordered his immediate release.

I don't buy this. Russian civil society in 1905 was approximately one billion times weaker than the US today. The reason is that we are too rich and comfortable and the political/economic situation simply isn't impactful enough for people to take the risk of disrupting their lives to this extent.
Why doesn't the US have a general strike? Well you can point to culture or whatever but I think structure is of not immediate use here: does the US have organizations and institutions it can use to network, organize and mobilize a general strike? No.

Yeah what the fuck. Kimmel was factually wrong but you hear conspiracy theories 100x more deranged on Fox every week
I don’t know when it’s going to pop for a lot of normies that they are living under an authoritarian regime, but the cancellation of popular TV shows that make fun of the administration might do it www.vulture.com/article/abc-...

The international system cannot possibly exist if the US claims it can unilaterally kill other countries nationals with no judicial or diplomatic process.
Here's the video Trump just posted to Truth Social, with the claim that 11 people aboard the boat were killed.

There is zero evidence of self-defense here. Looks like a massacre of civilians at sea.

Even if they had drugs aboard, that's not a capital offense.

I think AI will largely make internet based communication completely free of language barriers eventually. It's really good at translating things and also really good at imitating voices. Seems like it might be a big deal long term.

folks On Here are not going to want to hear this but the data is suggesting that the outlook is shifting towards significant economic strengthening despite uncertainty/tariff cost burdens, I think there's a real risk the Fed doesn't cut at all this year (for mostly "good" i.e. positive reasons)
