performance pro tip. if some loading interaction is slow, try removing the spinner. sometimes a spinner makes things slower.

i don’t mean just perception-wise. spinners can actually eat CPU

For comfort I am watching Tudor Monastery Farm, a reality show where academic historians in silly costumes try to live on a period-accurate early modern farm. The drama in this episode is that the cows, Gwynn and Graceful, hate plowing.

this is either intramural fash backbiting or a psyop, in either case you do not gotta hand it to him
Richard Spencer was the white supremacist who, after Trump's 2016 victory, gave a speech shouting, "Hail Trump! Hail our people! Hail victory!" while people in the audience gave Nazi salutes.

And now, he says he's voting for VP Kamala Harris for president.

The oddest timeline.

never thought i would say this but john heilemann more or less captures my exact few of the race at this moment. it is evenly tied. trump is clearly diminished, and harris is making a play for voters who are essentially invisible to national media puck.news/keep-kamala-...

A mid-October assessment of Democratic bedwetting: Which fears are reasonable, which are not, and is Harris really not doing enough?

In my experience libertarianism attracts a fair number people who, for whatever reason, see others more as economic vehicles for goods and services than as free-thinking humans with rights and/or desires beyond the engine of the marketplace. This worldview dovetails quite nicely with fascism.
It’s just weird because it seems like libertarianism should be the opposite of fascism. But I’m probably overthinking it.

Interesting — thanks.
Largely, cities are responsible for streets and roads in the U.S., though in bike/urbanist circles there is a long running joke about the most dangerous roads all being state-controlled (state highways or DOT/State Parks parkways)

You've gotta admit that Trump, despite his many flaws, is an incredible storyteller. Who could forget the classic: "The thing about Arnold Palmer is that he has a giant hog"

Hi. We’re a group of comic book writers & artists who are furious about Project 2025, The Heritage Foundation’s plan to consolidate power under authoritarian rule. So we made a bunch of comics to explain their agenda and move you to vote against it. stopproject2025comic.org
Stop Project 2025 Comic
Trump's Project 2025 is a detailed plan to shut you up, and shut you out. Don’t let it do either. Read on, then vote.

There’s an old story I’ve thought about often in the Trump Era. Two farmers are observing that after days of torrential rain, the river is close to overflowing its banks. “Do you think it will keep on like this much longer?” one asks nervously. “No, it’s sure to stop tomorrow,” the other replies.
the amazing thing is that if you write about this in an honest and level-headed way, you wil still get people telling you that you're overreacting
normally I'm not a "the press is responsible for trump" person, but it is incredibly jarring how little attention his more violent and disturbing comments have been getting in mainstream press coverage
