Today’s mood.

It’s becoming more and more exhausting everyday to be optimistic that elected officials could care about basic human rights and needs.

It speaks volumes when as a federal appropriations lobbyist, my firm is receiving more clients in the ed&healthcare space because they have lost federal funding. In a way, you’d think it doesn’t make sense, but also, folks are scrambling to find an in to keep the lights on at their vital facilities.

Literally every Black person who comes to DC visits the NMAAHC and it’s a big source of pride among a very broad swathe of people. Censoring the work there won’t be as frictionless as people imagine.

OK, here’s where we are: Senate approved the CR & approved a standalone fix to the DC budget issue. We need the House to vote on this fix when they return. As we heard from Senator Collins, the White House supports the fix, as does Rep. Cole of House Appropriations.
NEWS: The Senate just unanimously passed a bill to allow D.C. to spend its local funds at their current levels, moving to undo a provision of the federal spending bill that would have slashed the city's budget by more than $1 billion. The bill heads to the House next.

The bill, which would allow the city to continue operating under its 2025 budget, still needs to be approved by the House to go into effect.

This week has been absolutely draining. Literally, between the House&Senate’s dumb CR passing, to me having to explain to my clients that their FY25 Congressional Earmarks are gone, to me learning of health issues that will require expensive care that my insurance will likely not be able to cover.

There’s a special spot in the bad place for any elected official who can vote against children who came to them and literally begged them not to cut funding for their teachers.

We've been needing to have the discussion about how elected officials and those in power never retire, never make space for new energy, never build institutionally for future generations. I respect my kids and their friends. Set up the next generation to lead!

Congress: go talk to your senators.
DC: um....
Congress: slams doors; gets cops.
I’m over at the Senate with @freedcproject.bsky.social to continue to push senators to vote against cloture. Gillibrand’s office kicked everyone out and closed the office. Schumer’s office currently being heavily guarded by cops.

I want to thank Congress for my debilitating stress&mental breakdowns that I have had all week. If it weren’t for them, I would have felt optimism, smiled, would not have swollen eyelids from crying for a week straight.

Not gonna lie, I’m super stressed that this HRSA grant that I’m helping a client prepare will randomly be taken down because the title is “Nursing Workforce Diversity”&the goal is to increase minorities in the nursing workforce. I’ve been working on it for over a month now&it’s due in March.

It’s Saturday&I have 7 emails from clients that were sent overnight&this morning asking if I have any intel on either the Dept. of Ed., what may be happening to their awarded NEA grants, and the legality of shutting down agencies w/o an act of Congress. How did we get here? Like what the fuck.
