Proud DC Resident. Ward 5. Ed. advocate. Recovering educator. Federal appropriations nerd. Telling it like it is in our city.
If they are published, their funding allocations&award sizes as well as amount of projected awardees will greatly decrease. Our vital facilities have basically been defunded.

These facilities&organizations are coming to my firm, asking us to find federal funding&to write an award winning application, lobby it, and see them through their project timeline because they have to. The sad part? Most of the programs they are interested in will likely not be available.

We heard stories of hospitals and colleges filing for bankruptcy, becoming delinquent in grantsdotgov, causing them to not be able to apply for federal dollars because they are faced with these tough fiscal times. Yet, we need our hospitals&need our colleges that train our medical workers.

We submitted countless earmark applications for these clients, albeit this year being the most competitive year for submission as a result of the CR that put members in the position of prioritizing the projects from FY25. Thus many hospitals and colleges who will likely not make a list or a bill.

Oh, I am heading to Trusty’s to find trouble and to somehow take the edge off of this shit week.

It’s absolutely crazy to me how bad things got everyday since January 20th and I’m frankly not okay. I’m not okay as a DC resident, as a federal appropriations lobbyist, as a woman, as someone who cares&advocated for her community. This is just a draining mess.

Which honestly, really dumb move right there, especially if the federal grants that are not up for reauthorization&aren’t in statute will likely go away, thus making it harder for their constituents to receive federal dollars to improve their own communities.

In all seriousness, working in federal appropriations and wrapping my head around this CR has been a challenge. Not even republican members can feel a win, when the ones who participate in congressionally directed spending are losing their constituents projects here.
