Does the study break down the case types for >85? With more minimally invasive surgical techniques and the increased use of noninvasive monitoring (BIS & Pulse variability index), I can see why fewer arterial lines are used. Anecdotally it feels that age has lower risk and ortho trauma surgeries.

Paradigm shifts in medicine are always characterized by resistance from within the medical community. See Ignaz Semmelweis, Joseph Lister, Louis Pasteur, etc. What we're witnessing is a paradigm shift in how metabolism and obesity are understood. It's not a surprise some doctors are resistant.
