why's it that we can't submit manuscripts to multiple journals at the same time for consideration? do students have to apply to universities one at a time, waiting for a rejection to apply to the next? in-dpeth review is one thing, but not even editorial triage? will we never negotiate collectively?

read this paper and have a question to anyone studying colour-blindness: wouldn’t the "new" colour "olo" here be a very familiar colour for any colour-blind (red-green) person? Or are colour spaces learned and thus one must have experienced red before seeing olo ? www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Novel color via stimulation of individual photoreceptors at population scale
Image display by cell-by-cell retina stimulation, enabling colors impossible to see under natural viewing.

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

- 500 billion fund for public investment
- All defence spending above 1% of GDP not counted for debt brake.
- Federal states can borrow 0.35% p.y. for investment.

US Science has been under sustained attack for the last month. I've been thinking about the vulnerabilities in UK science.

In a new post, I've imagined a dystopian but *possible* future for UK science - as a way for prompting discussions on how we can protect it.

Is there a way to find out an email has reached the receiver, or if it has ended in Spam? Currently, I have the feeling that emails are about to become entirely useless. The amount of spam reaching me makes it an actual struggle to find genuine emails. Often I dont get replies writing somebody new.
