Comme le matraquage publicitaire bat son plein sur Internet, à la télévision, au cinéma et dans le métro parisien en cette période de fêtes : petit point sur Shen Yun et sur les raisons pour lesquelles vous devriez dissuader vos aîné·es de prendre des billets pour ce spectacle qui finance une secte.
Si vous regardez la télévision, prenez le métro, lisez le journal ou allez au cinéma dans les salles du réseau UGC, vous avez sans doute déjà été confronté·e à une publicité pour le spectacle de danse Shen Yun. Depuis près de vingt ans, cette troupe d'artistes se produit dans le monde entier et rassemble des millions de spectateur·ices dont la plupart sont loin de se douter que leur billet finance en réalité l'une des plus puissantes sectes d'Asie : le Falun Gong. Créé en Chine au début des années 1990, le Falun Gong (ou Falun Dafa), fédère des millions de fidèles, surtout en Asie où la secte a une influence politique et religieuse considérable, mais aussi en Europe et aux États-Unis. Depuis plus de vingt ans, ce mouvement profondément xénophobe, homophobe, anti-science, et anti-médecine est en conflit avec le Parti communiste chinois qui voit d'un très mauvais œil son influence grandissante. À plusieurs reprises, les associations comme Amnesty International ont dénoncé la répression violente et les actes de torture dont sont victimes les membres chinois·es du Falun Gong. Si la secte brandit cette répression comme un blanc-seing pour faire taire les critiques dans le reste du monde, elle n'en demeure pas moins dangereuse. Outre-Atlantique, le Falun Gong et son spectacle sont dans le collimateur de la justice américaine suite à des accusations de travail forcé, d'exploitation des enfants, de traite d'êtres humains, et bien d'autres horreurs. Shen Yun se targue par ailleurs d'être un spectacle historique : c'est évidemment un mensonge, et la secte profite des représentations pour diffuser ses messages politiques et religieux, à la manière de Pierre-Edouard Stérin, Vincent Bolloré et Philippe de Villiers. En France, le mouvement a pris de l'ampleur au début de la pandémie de Covid-19, notamment grâce à son journal : The Epoch Times. Ce média disponible en vingt langues est très actif sur les réseaux sociaux, notamment YouTube, et rassemble des millions de lecteur·ices tous les mois. Très proche des sphères complotistes et de l'extrême droite, le journal relaie une quantité astronomique de désinformation et a soutenu Donald Trump lors de sa campagne présidentielle. Alors, que fait la police ? Pas grand-chose, malheureusement. En France, la lutte contre les sectes a pris du plomb dans l'aile depuis plusieurs années. En effet, la mission interministérielle de vigilance et de lutte contre les dérives sectaires, ou Miviludes, a été reléguée au second plan et ses résultats trahissent un manque de moyens inquiétant. On parle d'une dizaine de salarié·es pour protéger l'ensemble du territoire de sectes avec des moyens colossaux, à l'image des Témoins de Jéhovah qui ont récemment obtenu gain de cause face à l'organisme. C'est un combat perdu d'avance qui oppose la Miviludes à Shen Yun et au Falun Gong. Comment lutter quand l'adversaire dispose de moyens autrement plus importants et du soutien médiatique de nombreux titres de presses ? Sans compter que la secte a pignon sur rue : il suffit de se promener dans les endroits fréquentés de Paris comme le Forum des Halles pour croiser des recruteur·euses du Falun Dafa avec des dépliants et des banderoles. Le quotidien de référence Le Monde a lui aussi diffusé une publicité pour Shen Yun sur sa Une, alors que ses journalistes ont dénoncé le mouvement plusieurs fois dans ses colonnes.

Thanks for writing and re-upping this. I think terminology is important, but I don't think regulating based on technical or statistical properties (e.g., "generative" or "transformer") is appropriate. I think the mode of interaction and epistemic function is more important for regulation.
