The 'Mozart of Math' rarely speaks about politics. The wide-ranging cuts to science funding made him change that.

The sneakiest, most sinister attack on higher ed right now (in my opinion) isn’t loan caps or budget cuts.

It’s the “earnings test” that could wipe out entire fields including teaching, counseling, social work, & journalism (and could even shut down colleges)

I know a lot of mainline dems read my work, so for those of you skeptical of my argument because of my role as a trans journalist, know that I _endorsed_ Harris for president.

The critiques I levy against Newsom are very particular to him and he poses a unique danger that I cannot stay silent on.
1. If you've scrolled social media lately, you've likely seem Democrats cheering for Gov. Gavin Newsom for trolling Trump relentlessly.

You've also likely seen trans people terrified of a Newsom 2028 run.

I explain why trans people are not feeling Newsom.

People living under fascism didn’t survive by giving up joy—they protected it.

They held onto the things fascism tried to erase: art, friendship, jokes, rituals, language, memory.

Not as escapism but as resistance. As proof they were still human.

Joy isn’t frivolous under fascism. It’s strategic.

I wish more people understood that sensory sensitivities aren’t just dislikes - they can cause huge distress and even physical pain.

Autistic brains process things differently.

Sounds, lights, textures… They can all overwhelm our nervous system and leave us unable to function.

Adriana Smith is brain dead and her family is being forced to watch her body be kept alive for months - not for her, but to serve Georgia's cruel abortion ban.

Adriana deserves dignity and her family deserves compassion, not state-mandated torment.
This is the cruelty of abortion bans on full display. This is not “pro-woman,” “pro-life,” or “pro-family,” this is inhumanity.

Adriana Smith, we fight for you.

My kid was home sick yesterday and I had to decide whether or not to send him to school today.

I'm lucky. That choice wouldn't cost my job or make me lose pay.

But if the GOP proposal passes low-income families would have to weigh all that and if staying home would jeopardize their ability to eat.
The new GOP proposal for SNAP cuts would take food off the table of 7 year olds if their parents can't report enough work hours. When my kids were 7, they were playing foursquare, learning math facts, and being silly.

Imagine getting LESS help to feed your kids if your boss cuts your hours.

Why do we undervalue the lives of disabled people so much? Why do we expect them to survive on a disability benefit that keeps them below poverty line - especially when being chronically ill drives expenses up?
