Rep. Emanuel Cleaver
@cleaver.house.gov
This is the official Bluesky page of Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II, representing Missouri's Fifth District (#MO05).
Senator Slotkin is a committed public servant who has spent decades defending our nation and strengthening our national security.

The administration’s attempt to intimidate her is disgraceful and disturbing.

I stand with @slotkin.senate.gov.
Last week, the U.S. Attorney for D.C. asked to interview me because of a 90-second video that President Trump didn't like.

The intimidation *is the point*. And it’s not going to work.

Watch my full response.

“The 0.7 percent jump in food prices from a month earlier was the largest one-month increase in grocery prices since October 2022.”

The president’s tariff taxes continue to drive up grocery costs on hardworking families.

They deserve better.

Thanks to long overdue investments in substance abuse and mental health treatment, America has made significant progress in combatting addiction and overdose deaths.

The administration is undermining this progress by unconstitutionally freezing this funding.

If Congress is not allowed to exercise oversight, then ICE and other federal agencies become unaccountable.

That’s completely unacceptable, which is why courts have affirmed lawmakers’ right to inspect these centers.

But the administration refuses to follow the law.

The independence of the Federal Reserve is critical to the long-term health of the economy.

The administration’s attempt to pressure the Fed Chair into lowering rates by launching a baseless investigation is the kind of stuff seen in third world dictatorships.

Congress cannot allow this to stand.

The president said he was going to revive manufacturing by enacting tariffs on our trading partners around the world.

Instead, these taxes have only driven up prices and killed good-paying manufacturing jobs nationwide.

Working-class families and blue-collar workers deserve better.
Manufacturing has been contracting for most of the past year. If you drill down you'll see metal manufacturing is doing ok, because Trump pummeled their competition with tariffs. Meanwhile the downstream US firms (machinery, electronics, autos) that have to *buy* more expensive metal are screwed.

The first president since Herbert Hoover to lose jobs during a single term has now overseen the worst year of job growth outside a recession in more than two decades.
December jobs numbers are out: Employment continues to slow, and we added +50k jobs. The unemployment rate fell a tick to 4.4%.

Oooph, revisions are brutal: October revised down -68k to -173k; November revised down -8k to +56k. Remember: The Fed thinks these numbers are overstated by 60k.

The actions of ICE are beyond disturbing.

They are also a tragic result of the administration’s reckless, aggressive, extreme, and intentionally inflammatory mass deportation policies.

Congress must immediately initiate an investigation into this horrifying killing of a civilian.
An ICE agent shot and killed a person in Minneapolis on Wednesday, federal authorities said. The shooting in a residential neighborhood comes days after the Trump administration ramped up the agency’s presence in the city. Follow live updates. nyti.ms/4qgGgYU
