Tarabishi was allowed to stay in the US since 2006 to take care of his son. He did his annual check-in with ICE, as he had for nearly 20 years. And this time they decided to fuck him over and cause his son's death. We are governed by monsters.
Maher Tarabishi, who has been detained by ICE since October, was the primary caretaker of his disabled adult child, Wael.

On Jan. 23, Wael died from complications related to Pompe disease, a rare genetic condition.

ICE has now denied Maher’s request to attend his funeral, his attorney says.

After being held in two of them as a boy, I fought for decades urging America to never again build concentration camps and put human beings in them. It breaks my heart to watch this happen twice now in my own lifetime.

Speaking of investment in cancer treatment…in just their first 7 months, this administration kicked more than 74K ppl out of active clinical trials, including cancer treatments, meaning if they were receiving treatment that may have been a cure it was just stopped and likely not available elsewhere:

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

I recommend not watching the videos, which are chaotic and gut-wrenching, and instead going through Bellingcat's analysis.

This man appeared to be zero threat, while the officers were overly-aggressive, agitated, and clearly primed to used lethal force.
Multiple federal agents can later be seen struggling with the man who is shot. One federal agent is seen approaching with empty hands, before reaching around the man’s waist.

I have spent my entire adult life being lectured by Republican politicians and conservative legal movement types about how important it is to preserve the sacred constitutional right to self-defense of *specifically this person* and then secret police murdered him in the street
Minneapolis police chief Brian O'Hara says that the victim was a 37-year-old white man and US citizen with no criminal record and that he was a legally permitted gun owner.

ICE has now carried out two summary executions of innocent people in the streets of an American city.

If you work for ICE, there's no denying that's the mission you're supporting now. You don't get to claim in one year or ten or twenty that you didn't know what ICE was doing. You're complicit.

A rule of thumb I use that may be helpful for others:

I watch these videos ONLY when I plan to write about them in a way that I expect to be useful, *or* if I think it's necessary to inform my organizing work so I can help keep people safe.

I *do not* watch just to witness.
I will be another voice to say, I have watched the video and you do not need to watch it unless you doubt what is being said.

There is no ambiguity.

Agents dogpile a person, he is on the ground, one of them starts clubbing with a pistol and then fires repeatedly. Even after the body is still.

18. (niche/regional): Arguing about who has the best wings in Western NY is incredibly stupid. Virtually every spot--from pizza joints to pubs to sit down restaurants--offers wings that are within a comparable range with a high floor. They HAVE to, or they wouldn't exist

Agreed. Should the United States be the Unilateral World Police? If the answer is "no," this needs a better justification than "he's bad" or "his election was tainted."

(If the answer is "yes," then there's a huge list of far more dangerous leaders we are inexcusably leaving in power.)
People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.
