To be honest, what's discouraging me about playing Magic is less the number of UB sets than the sheer number of creators who seem to HATE UB with a passion.

I support Japanese cards in boosters, but only if Japanese boosters have a 30% chance to contain Portuguese cards.
Opening my Tarkir Dragonstorm boosters and getting a ghost art in Japanese was one of the worse pack opening experiences from that set.

The Welcome Decks in the PAX West swag bag is what got us back in the game. I’d argue that ended up with a positive ROI for WotC :P

When working on the Brothers' War set, I named the ocean between Terisiaire and Aerona the Visceral Sea to provide a diegetic explanation for why Flood-Age Kjeldorans called homarids "viscerids" (They invaded from the Visceral Sea.) I might be the only person who cared about this, but I fixed it :3

It's taken me a long time to really internalize this, but I think what Brennan is talking about here is something that Sheldon talked about a lot with respect to Commander, and most people don't understand it in the context of Magic.
