Books matter.
Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

Hey guys I know it's really hard to be conscious of your health right now, so please remember that after every hour muttering “wtf” to yourself while scrolling on your phone you should stand up and banshee scream for at least 5 minutes to stretch out your lower back

Pete is in the house!👏🏼🎉
You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

A reminder that if there are URL's of OER that you think may disappear due to various world events, go throw those URL's into @archive.org's Wayback Machine at web.archive.org

Totally unrelated, remember that nearly everything published by the federal gov't is in the public domain.

Trump is trying to get rid of the employees who help your parents and grandparents with their Social Security checks, who help your friends and family after a flood or a fire, and who take care of injured vets after they come home from a deployment.

PRO TIP: check out books from the library — their funding is often tied to circulation, you can literally keep them in operation by just shamelessly borrowing as many books as you can carry.

An addition to this excellent thread, because I can't believe I still see this - when a creator you like turns out to be a shithead, the answer isn't to say, "but look, *this guy* is still good and wholesome, let's all obsess over him instead!", it's to recognise that you *don't know these people*.
It sounds harsh but actually the only way you're going to avoid having to wrestle with your connection to an artist when they turn out to be a shithead is just to treat creators as normal people rather than parts of your identity.

In elementary school, my teacher told my mother I was “unteachable.” I was behind in every subject, including reading. Then I found this one book in the school library and connected with it, reading it hundreds of times. I made a career in reading, writing, and editing. That’s what a book can do.
