I would like to invite all of my friends to have a big dinner together for the rest of my life
Man… I went to see the band KNOWER last weekend without ever hearing them before and I must say: they’re pure fucking math. No note nor beat out of place. A real satisfying brain scratch. Had a blast, and the crowd was super diverse esp. in terms of age. There was a 70+ guy in the front going ham..

I logged back on specifically to tell everyone about the left coast slate, but now that I’m here I MUST say that Shane on the L word LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE AUSTIN BUTLER TO ME

I was on my dear friend @mariadip.bsky.social’s podcast talking about freaks & geeks 🥹 it was so much fun I’ve seen the show like 40 times you should watch it, and if you have, listen to our pod cast!
✨EP 40 OUT NOW✨ @mariadip.bsky.social is joined by fellow union comrade and Freaks and Geeks superfan Margaret McCaughlin to break down the political themes of the show’s one and only season, which is firmly set in the 1980-1981 school year. #FreaksandGeeks

Proud to be running for co-chair of the labor committee of DSA-LA on the Left Coast Slate!
We have another slate for everyone today 👀

SMC is proud to be part of the Left Coast slate for @dsa.la leadership along with members of Communist Caucus and many independents.

We need to build a fighting DSA-LA that can contest for power across LA County 🛠️🌹

I personally love to be rent burdened
A rent-burdened household is officially defined as when rent makes up over 30% of a household's income. Andrew Cuomo is explicitly saying that the only way you should be able to live in over a million apartments in New York City is to become rent-burdened. A completely unserious proposal.
Cuomo's campaign provides some more details on his Zohran Mamdani-trolling proposal to make rent stabilized units in NYC income-restricted:

Unfortunately the democratic tent is too wide to the right for this to happen. A “Kyrsten Sinema-style” Democrat will never, in a million years, vote to approve DC statehood.

What slim majority Dems get will be blocked by the Manchins and Sinemas every time. We are sooooo so fucked lol
DC statehood is now an imperative. No more dicking around. Next Dem majority, get it done immediately.

But the org needs money and it needs volunteers and it needs labor and most of all, it needs more socialists. Be one.

Well, I believe the point is for civil servants to be made temporarily employed temps…Iike the private sector. They don’t want federal employees to expect stability. I don’t believe this is about functioning. It’s about disciplining labor. They don’t care if they break the government.
People are drawn to government service for a lot of reasons, but one is stability — and I don’t know how a future administration will convince potential applicants that the federal government is a trustworthy employer over the long term…
One of the most important things Democrats can do post-Trump is to revive, not merely rebuild, the career civil service. Not just to return it to where it was in January 19, 2025, but to where we need it to be on January 19, 2050 and beyond.

Back on my insurance soap box. The best way to understand climate change is to watch the insurance industry. They are paying very very close attention.

Günther Thallinger, a board member at Allianz, one of the world's biggest insurers, says the climate crisis could make adaptation economically unviable.

“the labor movement has coasted on the easier public sector membership, and failed to invest and fight to maintain or grow private sector membership. This is, quite simply, an abject failure of the labor movement.”
It is very possible that the power of organized labor will be effectively broken under Trump and we will need to rebuild the American labor movement again, without making the same mistakes that got us here.

THAT’S MY COUNTY BABAAAAY
What’s your favorite food fact that is true but sounds totally made up?

I’ll start: about half of the mushrooms produced across the United States of America each year (more than 300 million pounds of mushrooms in recent years) are produced in *one county* in Pennsylvania.

Ken Loach!!!!!
I’ll do the last, least interesting spin on this:

Who is an artist who is aggressively blunt about their politics (that you agree with) in a way that actually makes their art better as a result?
i think an interesting spin on this is, who are artists with politics you strongly agree with, whose politics *do* (in your view) influence their art, and that you think actually makes their art worse as a result?
