1/ When I came out as a trans woman at 28, I thought I’d caught the wave. Progress felt inevitable: transition care was becoming more accessible, tolerance was growing, and we were allowed to hope for a kinder world.

You don't ever, ever, ever give up a right without a fight. Not even if you know you're going to lose. *Especially* if you know you're going to lose. Make them take it. Otherwise, you just announced that any of your rights can be compromised away.
Cis people falling all over themselves praising Sarah McBride for "not letting Republicans use her as a distraction" is absolutely indicative of how they will respond to any efforts by trans people to preserve our rights.

I can't tell you how much transphobia rests entirely on trans-misogyny. These people can't every comprehend trans men, it literally breaks their brain like Ben Shapiro in that debate.

Having burly, bearded trans men use the women's restroom in the Capitol would highlight the absurdity of the rule.

1. The Republican Party's panic over Sarah McBride in a bathroom shows it was never about sports or kids.

They cannot help but to indulge in its cruelest impulses when a transgender person becomes an equal.

Now, Dems have an opportunity to flip the script.

Opinion: Republican Bathroom Panic Over McBride Shows It Was Never About Sports Or Kids
Republicans are in a frenzy over trans Congresswoman Sarah McBride, following a debate among Democrats about compromising on trans rights. Today’s events make clear the folly of such a decision.

I am glad this research is being done but trans Women have been saying this, It took too long and cis people continue to be so unwilling to confront our own systemic bigotry that we refuse the word transmisogyny.

1. It was never about sports.

Some have argued that Democrats should give up on trans people in sports.

As a leading transgender journalist covering the issue for years, I can say that this is a strategy doomed to fail.

Here's why.
