As education goes, so goes a nation. Please consider running to serve on your local school board. We may not be able to change what happens in DC, but we can influence what happens in our community. It would be an act of patriotism. #AcademicSky #EduSky

I think it's time to close that border.
It’s borderline criminal.

Don't forget what a valuable resource your local public library can be in your #Genealogy research. I searched high & low for an obit but couldn't find it. Reached out to my local library, who contacted a library in another state. Found it on microfilm! Rec'd pdf last night! #PublicLibrariesRock

Speaking truth to power, personified. We need many more Al Greens right now.
What a photo.

Green must be the start of something, not the end.

Sooooo wish I was there! Anyone know of any good conferences scheduled for later this spring or summer? #Genealogy #familyhistory
It’s the night before #RootsTech … and all the through the Salt Palace … people are scurrying to finish setting up. Looking forward to a great conference! #genealogy #familyhistory #Discover

So awesome, @shamrockgen.bsky.social ! Congratulations!
Tonight we had our #RootsTech media and speakers dinner. I was pleasantly surprised to see my blog post with the RootsTech survival guide featured!

I'm green with envy! Really regretting not going to #RootsTech this year! Anxious to hear of your experiences & tips. #Genealogy
Went to the Family History Library today aka the Mothership😉. Such nice staff, found the book I wanted and a computer to use - tech glitches so I will go back another time. #rootstech #genealogy

Spot on! Old newspapers are my go-to source when I'm writing a biographical sketch of an ancestor. The traditional documents provide the basic framework, but news clippings provide the flavor of the person's life. #Genealogy #FamilyHistory #GenealogySky

So true! Context is everything. For example, maybe you know that several members of a family form specific letters in a unique way--an #AI tool isn't going to know that, you could recognize it and make an important discovery. #Genealogy
Misconceptions about #genealogical #translation include the argument that a #translator can easily be replaced by #AI. Working on a document that included the abbreviation for the priest's order and role (Capuchin missionary). #AI could catch the missionary. The order: not so much. #genealogy

For all my #Genealogy friends researching U.S. military ancestors, I highly recommend the National Personnel Records Center. It’s usually a free service, and you can submit requests online or through the mail. I’ve received a treasure trove of info! There are some things to keep in mind though: 1/2

I’m so glad to learn that I’m not the only one who obsesses over things like this! 😊
There are a thousand things more important than this in my #genealogy, but i OFTEN think about this Jan 6, 1903 newspaper clipping that my ancestor went to Washington DC. I want to know WHY.

He was about 19. Very poor family. From Grinnell, Iowa. Got a job in Cedar Rapids later this year.

You can spend your whole existence trying to build up your reputation and good name. It takes only one really stupid mistake to tear it all down. We will never recover from what they're doing to our country. At least not in my lifetime.

And I suspect few countries will want to see Americans right now.
If you work in the American tourism industry be prepared to bring a book to work because the world has no plans on visiting you.

But other than all that, things are great again; right?

I actually think they believe privatization and AI are going to be able to run the country. I really do.

Exactly. Another example of just how addictive power and prestige must be. They'll sell their very soul to the devil just to be in the room or get tagged in a tweet. I almost feel sorry for them. Almost.
As of today, a new term has entered our language. A “rubio” is a spineless lump of nothing. Example: Don’t be such a rubio.

Exactly. As the leaders of the "Christian Family Values" party, they may need a refresher sermon in the Golden Rule.
Whenever you welcome guests, treat them with kindness, grace and respect. Simple as that.

Exactly. That means there had to be something in it for them. Either they have something on T, or they were able to "show their gratitude" by making a big contribution to a PAC that supports him.
For Donald and Elon, protecting the evil Tate brothers was a higher priority than containing the measles outbreak and reducing grocery prices.

Done. Breaks my heart, but it had to be done.
Given that Bezos just did a full takeover of @washingtonpost.com and now it can only report that America and money are great--today is a great day to cancel if you have it, you check to make sure you aren't paying for a forgotten subscription.

I did as well, but truthfully, I'm not celebrating. This newspaper used to be the "go to" source for investigative journalism. This is what money and the desire for more of it does to a free press.
Ok!!
Canceled my @washingtonpost.com subscription!! Yay!!

Thank you, Apple and Costco! Glad to see at least 2 companies that still have some backbone and truly care about supporting diverse, equitable, and inclusive practices for ALL employees.
💥 BREAKING: At Apple's 2025 annual meeting of shareholders today, proposal entitled “Request to Cease DEI Efforts" is rejected by shareholders.

Right-wing nonprofit National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR) proposal was also rejected by Costco shareholders 98-2 percent.

WashPo has fallen a long way from the days of Woodward & Bernstein. It's heartbreaking. I cancelled my subscription. Need to find a way to wean from Amazon as well.
Looks like the attack on DEI has now reached the diversity of thought. Very sad to see the Washington Post transformed into a propaganda machine. I hope you’ll read the good content over at The Contrarian, where all viewpoints are welcome.

Love your videos! I've found that even in the late 1800s & early 1900s, some children were just taken into households following the death of a parent. Census records show the child referred to over time as a son or daughter with no formal adoption. #GenealogySky #FamilyHistory #Ancestry

Thank you for your service to our country, @RepPettersen. You are a true public servant and we appreciate what you tried to do for those of us who don't have a voice. Please hug your precious one for me.
Colorado's Rep Brittany Pettersen (D) flew cross-country with her one-month-old to vote against the GOP budget tonight. Dems ended up one vote short. Pettersen was part of an unsuccessful bipartisan push to allow new mothers to vote remotely. #copolitics

Yes it will, and not "just" for individuals--just think about how many nursing homes, optometrists, home health providers, rural hospitals, and the like receive a vast majority of their business from Medicaid patients. This will lead to even more closures.
Cutting $880 billion from Medicaid is going to have a lot of devastating consequences for a lot of people
