This belonged to my great grandma.
But here's what I'd never noticed. The very first page of the book was stuck & I don't think I've ever seen that the 1st page was signed "Grandpa". That is my 3rd great grandfather b. 1818, Rev. James Alexander Shankland, son of Scottish immigrants.

Here's a book that belonged to my great grandfather Louis Edwin McFarlane (1865-1945). This is from 1872. I always enjoy when friends my age talk about how well they knew their great grandparents and I casually mention that my great grandfather was born at the close of the Civil War. :). #genealogy

This is an 1812 psalm book.
Eliza is the sister of my 3rd great grandmother, Martha Galbraith McFarlane (1805-1889).
Samuel Galbraith? Well, he's my 4th great grandfather. The signature in the back of this book belongs to a man born in 1767 and who died in 1841. That's amazing.

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

How many of you can relate to that feeling where you have literally 45 tabs open, you’re juggling about 7 concurrent theories and you know you’re close to figuring it out?

I liken my research method to the circus performers who spin plates on poles. Anyone with me? #genealogy
