Stuttering and family history are some of my favorite things to talk about. ☺️ Storytelling is power. I run @stutterology on ig
When my mom and I did a #genealogy road trip last year, I didn't do a good job at reaching out to places beforehand.
I get a lot of phone anxiety so I tend to avoid calls, which especially doesn't work in more rural / small town places that don't have updated info online.

For a variety of reasons, there's quite a number of my ancestors I don't have photos of who lived past 1950. But none drive me as mad as my 2x great-grandfather, Joe Gooding, because I have one of his FATHER, John Goodin.

Here's John Goodin, Joe's dad, and James Gooding, Joe's son.

Woke up late today but planned to do some chores and work on some necessary reading.

Then I got a letter from Gopher Records that the Civil War pension for John Goodin is ready!

Goodbye Saturday! 😁

Was surprised to learn Ogle County, Illinois is named for my 8th great-grandfather, Cpt Joseph Ogle, given that he never lived there!

But they were early families to Illinois, so I guess that's why haha. One day I'll have to visit. Wish I had done so on my #genealogy road trip last year!

I wish I knew the story of how my great-grandparents met. I'm not sure how most of them met, but these two seemed to have been so in love.

Only great-grandparents I had who never separated (that I know of). All accounts were of them being happy.

I don't even know when these 2 married! 😭 #genealogy

12 years into #stuttering acceptance, and it's still amazing (not in a good way) how much it impacts my decisions when I'm nervous.

Like... I'm far less nervous that I used to be! So much more confidence in myself and my voice!

But geez. I wonder if I'll always have to face this massive self doubt

Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isn’t.

This is what I found.

The ability to remove your post when a hostile account quote-tweets you is a great feature of Bluesky.

To do it, go to their quote-tweet of you, click on the three dots in the bottom right, then click “detach quote.”

It shows up as “removed by author.”

I have had multiple people tell me to do a podcast series about my grandfather's cousin who spent 37 years in jail and a murder that I PERSONALLY don't think he did.

I have his 400 page prison file lol. Very interesting guy.

I would love to but idk how much actual interest? #genealogy

Just made the connection that my grandma's 2% West African DNA (my 1% Ghana/Ivy Coast) is from her father's side... so longtime Southerns.

Several of her "Babb" matches share the 1% Nigerian Woodland/Tiiv, so I am assuming it's from that line. Oye.

Hmmm so my brick's wall brother, William P Moore, helped my out by listing all his brothers in his 1862 will. #genealogy

I've been trying to figure out his death date from his probate, but also I found this headstone. Uploaded to FG in 2024.

Submitted some stuff to Gopher Records due to their discount, and decided to play around in the War of 1812 pension records on Fold3 after seeing a mention of John Bazwell, an ancestor of mine. #Genealogy

I decided to go through the Moore records of SC, feeling like it may be fruitless. BUT....

Finding out that I had great-grandparents who were supportive and kind and good and openly loving has been one of the hardest parts of #genealogy for me, weirdly enough. It takes so long to heal, but it's so easy to break.

It doesn't take much to destroy everything.

One piece of the right's reaction to Charlie Kirk's death that we need to get in the news is MAGA family losing their minds and accusing their children or other family members of murder.

I've been collecting stories I come across that sound like mine or are worse, and I have over 20 from (cont)

I had an interesting #genealogy week last week while visiting family. There's a lot to be said of the possibility for generational healing through this.

My mom, who has held a lot of anger her whole life and is now 65, texted me thanking me for what I've been doing... that she's able to let go. 🥹

Power was out for most of the day - my WiFi AND cellular data went out. But I needed to get tickets for the #KnowledgeFight live show, which went on sale at 9am.

Went on a drive. Bought them once I got to a place with service around noon. Tickets sold out around 3pm.

WHEW. Excited to see JorDan 🤩

Last weekend I was in San Diego, and my mom and I met her brother about their father's family. He had this lovely photo from Del Mar in the 1940s. Their father is the boy in the front.

The dog's name is Boots 🐾.

How is it I feel the love radiating from this family?
