Stuttering and family history are some of my favorite things to talk about. ☺️ Storytelling is power. I run @stutterology on ig
The new film "My Secret Santa" on @netflix.com is disappointing in regards to how they chose to incorporate #stuttering.

Honestly, like... this is 2025. Why are movies still doing this tired trope of "curing" disability for a feel good moment? It's very disappointing.

Scene is at about minute 42

That graveyard, we were looking for flat headstones, which sucks, but it was tiny.

It was also near a river, and we kept sinking into the grass. We did our best not to think too much about that lol.

For a variety of reasons, there's quite a number of my ancestors I don't have photos of who lived past 1950. But none drive me as mad as my 2x great-grandfather, Joe Gooding, because I have one of his FATHER, John Goodin.

Here's John Goodin, Joe's dad, and James Gooding, Joe's son.

Since "bodago county" and "Russian redwood county" aren't places, lol, found an old 1884 civil township map of Sonoma County that helps place some areas where he could've been. There is a Russian township, Redwood township, and Bodago township - and the Russian River runs through the first two.

Have to transcribe this whole thing but it notes that in 1860 in Bodago Co, California (make sense now that he's missing on that census), he lost 4 of his fingers on his left hand in a sawmill.

So he served in the Civil War with 6 fingers. Wow.

I wish I knew the story of how my great-grandparents met. I'm not sure how most of them met, but these two seemed to have been so in love.

Only great-grandparents I had who never separated (that I know of). All accounts were of them being happy.

I don't even know when these 2 married! 😭 #genealogy

This avocado collar was such a win (for me, not for Pocket).

He had more photos of my great-grandmother than I was expecting. She was just so cute!! I've only heard good things about my great-grandparents, who died too young (both in their 50s). Such sweet looking humans.

Last weekend I was in San Diego, and my mom and I met her brother about their father's family. He had this lovely photo from Del Mar in the 1940s. Their father is the boy in the front.

The dog's name is Boots 🐾.

How is it I feel the love radiating from this family?

I don't really understand why people choose to comment on a video of me #stuttering just to insult me and say they'd discriminate against me

This is why education isn't enough, disabled people need legal rights.

This person could've just not commented... an option they had.

Yippie!! I'll be busy this weekend 🤩🤩 #genealogy

Wrote up a blog about the stories of my miner 49er (er, 50/51er?) ancestor. It's almost 2,000 words and I left out things that felt like fact giving instead of storytelling 🤣🤣

This guy is wild. Idk how to tell short stories lol

The California Riverside newspaper archive is down with their images this week, but I was finally able to get the transcription to load.

And my goodness, what a drama queen.

"Theyll never take me alive," he says, fleeing to the mountains.

They took him alive. (3/3)

We started doing daily walks around my shared courtyard a few months back, but she's already getting bored of the routine. Wants to go out where the cars go fast 🙄

Pocket loves her strolls though

What feels frustrating to me about #genealogy folk who make posts like this is that it's disingenuous to call everybody who critiques image generation AI as an ignorant hater.

If you promote or show use of AI, you owe it to mention the environmental impact of it too.

4 generations, and I am the end of the maternal line.

As much as I know I don't want kids, there's still a weird grief in knowing I'm the only one still capable of continuing the maternal line, and I won't be.

At the same time, I don't think my gramma and great-gramma would blame me.

Anywho

My 3x great-grandfather was murdered after he sold a yolk of work steers, and the recipient felt he was ripped off. The receipt of sale was in the court case against Sadler. From April 1878 in Oregon.

What do we think of James's handwriting? #genealogy
