My most gen x opinion is bring back headphone jacks. Sometimes I want to use wired headphones AND charge my phone ya know? But phones can't chew gum and walk at the same time any more, not like in my day etc.
I think my most millenial opinion is we need to bring back disc drives

That said, it looks like shipping holds steady at that price, even when you order more copies. (I tested it out at five copies, but I'm not sure if the price'll jump if that number increases.) So, if you and four friends wanna share the cost, that's one way to get our book.

It's a month till Christmas Eve. I imagine folks are shopping for their presents now. I wanted to suggest WORK-LIFE BALANCE as a stocking stuffer, but a) our publisher's new distributor doesn't take over till January and b) shipping to California seems to be a whopping SG$63 via my publisher's site.

Totally forgot to do a proper post about this, but took the little fella to see one of his history-idols, the lovely @gregjenner.bsky.social on Tuesday in York. JB was a little shy, but managed to tell Greg that he wanted to start a podcast because he listened to Homeschool History.

I wish more reporting on this made the point that novelists won't be displaced by LLMs suddenly producing literature instead of story mulch, but because decision makers focused only on the bottom line, who don't understand what makes a good book, will be persuaded story mulch has got 'good enough'.
New research by @mctd.bsky.social shows the impact of generative AI on authors in the UK. They found over a third of novelists report their income has already been negatively impacted by AI and 85% expect their future income will be negatively impacted.

If you're an author being published by small and tiny presses, please shamelessly promote your work, however much your temperament might militate against it. I've seen many wonderful authors at this level so quickly forgotten when they die, you deserve all the readers you can get while you're alive.

You can make art.

The biggest step isn't getting good at art, it's being willing to make art that doesn't match the idea of "good art" in your head.

Making a lot of imperfect art is an essential step toward making perfect art; a counterproductive goal you shouldn't have anyway.

Just make art.
