I'm a couple of days late, but tradition's tradition! See you in mid-January, folks.
To me, my X-Mas!

Time for my year-end social media break. I'll largely be offline till mid-January, but I'll pop in every now and then to check my DMs (and repost Jamie's Christmas joke). Our publisher's deal with their new distributor begins in January, so if you wanted to get WORK-LIFE BALANCE, please do so then.

Deleting Bluesky off my phone first, before logging out of social media tomorrow. Once again, please get WORK-LIFE BALANCE in January, when we have a new distributor who (hopefully) won't use copies of our books to get them out of their shitty financial situation, instead of paying us our residuals.
After this Friday, I'm taking a social media break till mid-January. In 2026, however, WORK-LIFE BALANCE will once again be available internationally, through a distributor that will actually pay Ben and I our due residuals. So, when the New Year hits, please head to my website and order your copy.

Mild spoilers for WELCOME TO DERRY: So, wait. If the creature takes on the form of what it thinks attracts children, does that mean that it might've eventually come back as a MINECRAFT character?

Not sure about this new Fahrenheit 451 remake. Rather than burning books, they've banned sick burns. It's a disstopia.

I'm listening to the JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS soundtrack for the first time in ages and, my god, does it hold up.

It's interesting watching the ACTORS ON ACTORS episode with Brendan Fraser and Dwayne Johnson. Both have probably had media training, but while Fraser has figured out how to make that training work for him as a person, Johnson seems almost trapped by it.

Oh, easy. Ben Reilly—and not just as Chasm, because there's a particular part of his history I want to explore. I'd love to work with Mark Bagley or Luke Ross. Someone who's an excellent storyteller, but who also worked with J.M. DeMatteis in the nineties.
Okay, you get to write ONE dream comic mini-series, featuring characters you did not create.

What character would you pick, and who would draw it?

This is probably meant as a joke but is 100% true.
FROM DUSK TILL DAWN would have been better if it starred Matthew Lillard and Paul Dano.

When They Burned the Butterfly, by @wenyilee.bsky.social (pub by @torbooks.bsky.social), is a great love letter to Singapore, a historical inspired fantasy that you will enjoy if you like sapphic romance, street gangs and grey characters.

I've still got a fireside chat with C.B. Cebulski this coming Friday, and Luca has a vet appointment the week after, but I'm slowly winding down for the year. That is to say, I'm probably finally cracking open that first Marvel vs DC omnibus this week.

Next on my reading list is a book I picked up two years ago—and it's not even the oldest purchase on the list. (Five years, I think, is the current oldest.)

It took me a little over a decade from getting Ed Brubaker's autograph to getting Sean Phillips's. Their partnership has been an inspiration for the type of collaborations I want to have. I chatted and joked with Ed. Sean was warm and cordial. Two different personalities, but both just as lovely.

I just saw something called Ogilvy Consulting's 2025 Fandom Report, and it not only reaffirms my decision to get off social media after my chat with C.B. Cebulski next Friday, but it makes me wanna do so a whole lot sooner. Like, now.

If you're not racist, homophobic, transphobic, or xenophobic, you can go ahead and tell folks you were on my best-of list.
gentle reminder that just because something you made didn't make a "best of" "year end" list doesn't mean you didn't make anything important in 2025

Me, speaking with an Irish producer: "Do you think Ireland would be open to Southeast Asian horror?"

Irish producer: "We did invent Halloween."

Me: "... Yeah, I walked right into that one."
