this wave of discourse from the ‘postliberals’ is the first where they reek of genuinely believing they are going to utterly lose. they could be wrong, but this new ‘turn inwards to define our camp’ thing sounds more like anticipatory etching of a gravestone than their usual ‘we are on the march!!’
Suddenly antiliberals who defined “liberalism” to include pretty much the entire American political tradition — from Jeffersonian republicanism to Reagan fusionism, and everything in between — are quite particular about what counts under the recently manufactured concept of “postliberalism.”
