The prediction was always that when boomers aged, they would force massive improvements to health care and elder services. Instead, the rich ones access private care, and the rest seem resigned to humiliating decline at the hands of rapacious capitalism.

M83 got the sax back on the map with Midnight City, it was a bummer this song wasn’t bigger because shredder solos deserved another moment.

May this portion of the dissent by Ketanji Brown Jackson haunt John Roberts forever and be the final word on his tenure as Chief Justice.

my similar boomer opinion is that i think “home economics” or whatever the equivalent is ought to be mandatory for students in middle and high school.
boomer opinion i have is that there are way more young adults out there who legit don’t know how to take care of themselves in very basic ways than we’d probably be comfortable with knowing

Today, the Ohio Supreme Court acknowledged the long and remarkable recovery road traveled by a UCinci law student. She will take the bar exam later this month. Congratulations!

I always say I love my country the way Anthony Bourdain did, not as a benevolent state or one founded in innocence but as vast, beautiful place full of discrete people and cultures such as has rarely been attempted and worth fighting for.

The rise of people like Lander and Walz, whose ideologies don't exactly match mine but have the exact right combination of "love thy neighbor" and "fuck you, asshole" attitudes, is massive positive for people who care about left of center politics

(it’s been depressing today seeing even just a few people processing the court’s opinions like ‘now your rights are contingent on how much lawyering you can afford’ (paraphrased) and I can’t find the right way to say, that’s been true for a while and this is worse….)

a fairly deeply held belief of mine is that Americans want immigration to work the way they think it already does:

you can get in legally if you’re patient on a reasonable timescale, and if you’re here long enough to put down community roots you shouldn’t get kicked out regardless
On the citizen / non-citizen point, I suspect it’s an example of right-wing bubble

Outside the frothing lunatic conservatives base, does 60% of the country care so deeply about legal status or assume they can discern a person’s legal status from aerial video footage?

Credibly commit to forcing the choice: you get unitary executive theory *or* a stable macroeconomy, but not both.

*cheeky* Time for some game theory.

I think it’s possible that at least 2 of the Republicans on the Court would happily apply unitary executive theory even to the Fed.

So what if the 3 Democrats simply said, in writing, “If you do this, when the Fed is before us, we will apply this as precedent.”

If I’m correct, it seems like the Supreme Court just ruled that there’s no such thing as an independent agency unless ending the independence of said agency would destroy the US economy

Kagan's dissent is scorching and worth reading in full. She calls out the majority for effectively overruling Humphrey's Executor on the shadow docket and allowing Trump to break the law without even awaiting the Supreme Court's permission. She is alarmed.
